In 1998 i looked at a Ranger "Splash" with good options, 3.0L V6, 4x4, and five speed stick. It was just a little more than a low mileage 1997 F150, similar equipment. I went with the F150.

With that said, the 4.2L V6 was not a good engine, especially the first year. I wish that I bought the ranger back then.

I saw the global Ranger in Greece two years ago. With the small diesel it would really hurt toyotas sales, but also cut into the full size market as well.

According to this Ford is going to go to a unibody truck and get back to more of a true 1/2 ton than a small 3/4 ton truck. Of course it was put out on April 1st, but it's similar to other stuff I have read that Ford was trying to reduce weight to get the mileage up.

Ford F-150 Going Unibody For 2015 - Truck Trend News

Well this will certainly give the rental places one more reason- to not rent to people towing equipment with the newest 1/2 ton Ford trucks IF they build them lighter and de-rate them...

May increase the re-sale price of the current F-150 trucks, if they turn them into (light duty)...

A lot of people will want to keep the current model- and it may actually cost Ford the sales that would be provided by current owners wanting to update...??

Perhaps the people who are buying F150's for work trucks will move to the F250, F350, & F450, which they probably should have been purchasing anyway. The F150 may be relegated to urban wannabes, not that there aren't a lot of people who buy pickups, but don't want to do anything with it that might scratch the paint.

With them going lighter duty on the 150 I don't see a need for a Ranger replacement.

Thats ford's intention I suspect.

However a F150 is not a Ranger. Dealers act like your a fool for wanting to buy a ranger when you can pay a couple grand more for a fullsize that gets basically the same mileage, but there are many good reasons to go smaller. Easier parking. Better in the woods. And if they brought over one with the diesel, considerably better mileage. I know I wouldnt trade my older Tacoma even for a new Taco. The new tacoma is huge by comparison to my old one. I like the fact that my old one is nice and compact.

Real reason Ford isnt doing it is likely because it will cannibalize 150 sales and their bragging rights. That and the Chicken Tax .Chicken tax - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So you are saying Ford isn't going to a unibody 2015 F-150 ?? and I think you are right -It will cost them sales...if they do go to a unibody truck and if they do build it they are taking a big gamble on their (bread and butter) sales...

Remember the unibody Jeep trucks based on the Cherokee? I don't think they sold well and probably why Chrysler dropped the unibody truck and produced their own frame versions instead... Also that chrysler continues to build all of their trucks on frame...when they could do a unibody truck they draw the line at Mini vans and Suvs, I hope that doesn't change...

Honestly I dont know what Ford will do.

I can see them wanting to make the F150 even lighter than it is. Does that mean Unibody? Or Aluminum? Or both? I dont know.

Unibody trucks are out there.. ford could do it in theory.. I think they are concerned with "image" though.. Some member of the big 3 WILL make a unibody half ton in the next while Id almost bet on it...

I read it will be unibody. The Highest GCWR will be 7700. The 6.2 will be dropped. There will be a second ecoboost engine. The Raptor may have a 550hp ecoboost.

I read they killed a new raptor echo boost after that video of those idiots launching their current raptor came out. Fear of liability.

The '15 F150 will NOT be unibody, it will still be body on frame. There will quite likely be lots of aluminum in the truck, reducing weight drastically (700 lbs is the target). There will be another EcoBoost engine displacing 2.7L (V6) and putting out 300+ HP, while getting outstanding fuel economy. I also look for the 6.2L to go away. Look for the 3.5L EcoBoost numbers to go up across the board (HP/torque/MPG).

This is going to be one bad-***** truck, and the others will have lots of catching up to do. Heck, according to the latest pickuptrucks.com half-ton shootout, they have a lot of catching up to do to meet the standards of the CURRENT F150!
