Squirrel Trouble

   / Squirrel Trouble #31
A neighbor of mine used to put out ears of corn on a "trick" feeder he mounted to a tree in his yard. The squirrel would climb out and the ear of corn would flip upside down making the squirrel hang upside down to feed. He got a real kick out of watching them. Then one day he had an electrictian working at his place and he found where squirrels had entered the attic and chewed lots of the wires. He knew it was squirrels and not rats because he saw 2 leave the attic as he entered. He no longer feeds sssquirrels. BTW, they have 4 cats that live at their place and the squirrels ignored them. Sometimes they would hang low on a tree trunk and "bark" at them but pretty much ignored them.

Now that the leaves have all fallen I can locate about 15 nest in the tree's, the strange thing is I have 6 acres -2 in which are cleared thin of tree's and the other 4 all wooded, I can walk through the woods and not see a squirrel one, They seem to have chose to live among us hear in the clearing, Weird!:cool:
What's so weird, your living in the clearing aren't you. :laughing:

My effective solution is to use wood rat traps, the kind that has the square spring loaded slammer like the old fashioned mouse traps.
Bait with peanut butter and you will be find daily carcases to clear out.
Death is virtually instant as well for those who care about that sort of thing.
By definition a squirrel is a rodent and most would not hesitate to kill a rat any way possible.

'nother Squirrel true tale;
The rodent chewed the bottom corner of the camp door to get access.
To repair and block his entry I screwed an aluminum kick plate that covered the entire width of the door.
The next weekend we found that that **%#$** rodent had chewed out the door frame right next to the repaired door.
Setting rat traps baited with PB cured him forever of that habit!

My fil is an electrical engineer and wired up a piece of a hacksaw blade on his bird feed just big enough for full contact and zap no more squirrel. Worked great until his wife made him take it down. We have three cats that usually keep them at bay and kill one once in a while but one did get into my truck engine bay. Got him out be fore he caused damage though.

I have something eating on my truck and think it might be a squirrel. It recently ate the sensor wire to my oil pressure gauge. Took a while to figure out why the truck was running good but showed no oil pressure.
