!@#$%^ Squirrels!

It is easier to trap a squirrel than shoot one.

A bag of corn, and a HavaHart trap will catch EVERY one of them,,,
:D
Either VA squirrels dodge bullets better than Tx squirrels or Tx squirrels are wiser about traps. During my life I've trapped most creatures including squirrels, squirrels rank in the difficult to trap for me. I've baited with stuff sold by a wildlife control specialist and everything else I thought might interest them. The only way I've found to make a serious dent in the population is shooting one and throwing it in a trap. Others come to investigate and are traped by 2 or three other traps sitting next to dead one. Once I catch one,he's left in trap alive, other traps set beside it and he become's another Judas.

We have 3 outside barn cats that seem to keep squirrels, chipmunks, mice and ground moles in check..Before the cats the chipmunks were having a field day..LOL..

Hmmm........ I have chipmunks, mice & pocket gophers. In the 35+ years out here - seen a pine squirrel twice and that was well over one half mile from the house. Lord knows, I don't need yet another chewing beastie.

I use a homemade 5 gallon bucket trap for chipmunks & mice. Works well, until I can get my hands on some farm cats. Wonder if this would work for squirrels. Maybe have to use a 55 gallon plastic garbage can.

My squirrels can jump straight up over 5 feet ,, so you would need two barrels stacked,, at least.

AND it would help to have a funnel inside to deter them jumping or crawling out

CADplans - if the 55 gallon trap was scaled up and built according to pics of the 5 gallon trap - there would be no jumping once the squirrel hit the bottom. The 55 gallon trap would have a foot and a half or more of water on the bottom.

Oosik, over here in Puget Sound there is a group dedicated to getting stray cats, neuter them, and offer up as Barn Cats. They reccommend ghetting two as cats like company. Just google "barn cats, king county".

Tree rats and other rodent vermin can be very destructive. We cannot use plastic bird feeders,n they chew them up getting at the ford. When I had a motor home I spent a lot of time and money repairing propane hoses. Seems the odoriferous stuff seeps through the hose and is very attractive to them, finally bought all SS braided hoses; they even tried out their sharp teeth on those.
