In '73 after my wallet was lifted and I lost my SS card, I went down and had a metal one made. They didn't require proof and made it right then and there. Had a naked lady on it.

The Hawkers and other folks outside the gates that catered to the military were not usually the most circumspect.

My metal SS card has an Eagle with an American Flag on both sides of it, and now I see you can purchase these metal SS cards online for about $10.

Phishing scams are getting hard to recognize. I never open anything any more that I don't initiate. Scammers are getting slicker.

like pulling teeth but it looks like I got it finally, online. should get ss in my account any day now. really pays off to wait until age 66. my amount is about $400 plus a month over age 62, now I just need to live for another 8 or 10 years. should get $1614 a month. Between navy retirement, va disability and ss, almost making more per money per month than I every did working. next goal is to work getting a small retirement from working three and half years at kawneer when it was a union shop before closing and bought out by acola. might be good for $40 or $40 a month.

I'll have to disagree there. Based on that number you would have been getting about $1K/mo so you missed out on about $48K over the last 4 years. That's an amount most people won't be able to recover unless they live into their 80s or 90s.

But it's a personal decision.

The lines still cross at about age 78.

SS increase for next year announced ... 1.3%

Not much, but some were saying there wouldn't be any increase at all.

I started getting SS at 62. It was so very easy - it was almost a joke. They made a copy of my birth certificate - filled out a one page form - done.

One could only hope other government operations would go so smoothly.

i took mine this year, and only issue i had was needing to get a replacement SS card because my wife laminated my old one, and they would not accept that. other than that, was easy. one thing is nice is i dont need SS to survive. i feel sorry for some friends of mine that never saved up anything...always had to have a new toy.

I did it all on the web. No office visits, no presenting documents or proof of anything. Filled out a web form, got approved in minutes. ChaChings started a couple of months later.

My ssi card lamination started because of the star card. I was taking care of that at same time. Had to get a new card for star card, so applied fir ss at same time.
