SSQA Lips

I know your rig is lots more heavy duty than most. Those upper triangular wedges help to center the top. None of my attachments have that. Is a standard ssqa plate easy to hitch to??

Just that little extra material to help guide the tractor ssqa in helps. My old 80s, M5030DT cab with Bobcat ssqa welded in I was total blind. It took getting off and on several times to line up heavy attachments.

Yep, easy because from the seat I can see the left side of the SSQA. Here is the bale spear:

Just asking if a little LIPS augmentation to female side of the ssqa would bring joy to mating of attachments?

No, most plates fit close on the sides, I don't think there is room for LIPS.

Cut two pieces 0.5x1.5x10” flat bar for the LIPS. The grapple ssqa sides are 3/8” thick. Welded the LIPS on top of the grapple and about 1/8” wider than the inside dimension at a 45* angle. This doesn’t reduce the inside dimension. 45* gave a nice bevel to weld to. A few stitch welds on the outside. Grind, blend the inside weld smooth radius. Shot of paint while still warm.

This gives about 1” funnel lip on each side. What a difference! It’s like it’s wants to jump on now by itself. Helps correct side to side misalignment. Should have done this years ago. This would help some bigger, older or cab tractors with poor sight lines.

As quick and easy to improve some other attachments my be LIPS augmented too. Surprised I haven’t seen an adapter plate with LIPS. A LIPS Lock adapter plate.

In mechanical design we refer to this as "lead-in". You use things like chamfers, tapers and angled flanges like the OP posted about to help "lead" a part "into" another for easy assembly. Whether it is done in the factory or in the field, lead-in type features help ease assembly of durn near everything.
