Hi guys,

The rain and the deer have been cooperating, and we (she) got a BUNCH of green beans canned. Used the big 22qt pressure cooker with 7qts of beans at a time, which takes a LOT of heat! Had one jar break, so got a little bean juice seepage around the seal and then down right next to the burner on the stove top. With all the heat, that caramelized into VERY difficult to remove stains on the brushed stainless steel surface! Finally had to resort to fine steel wool after numerous cleaners and solvents failed to faze it.

So, we saw the "Enduroshield" stainless cleaner/preservative on-line. Anyone ever used it? I'm suspicious that it's a $22 can of nothing much different than trusty old "GlassWax". It says it's good for minimizing fingerprinting, but don't know if this would be of any benefit to prevent burned-on staining. It may even CONTRIBUTE to the problem by burning itself. Or anyone used a stainless stain preventer that actually works?

There's a "Magic" brand product for stainless that seems to work pretty well for us (same company that makes Countertop Magic). Can get it at Lowes. It seems to slightly oil the stainless, which hides smudges and wards off new ones. But with a toddler, we don't even bother to fight it anymore. Someday when our girl is bigger, we'll get the stainless appliances back in shape.

Never tried a stain guard product. We don't use anything special on our stainless steel appliances, except for a micro fiber cloth. Past experience has been that all the products create more issues with fingerprints, smudges, etc, than they prevent. A micro fiber cloth & a little vinegar water will take off all the marks and not leave any oils, etc, to attract dust & or leave smudges in.

10 years or so ago, an appliance salesman told me to skip all the fancy expensive products and use lemon oil on my stainless appliances, Yes, the same lemon oil that is used for furniture polish, which is really nothing more than diesel fuel which smells better. I've used it ever since, and it does actually work.

Wife wanted stainless when I remodeled the kitchen. I argued, begged, pleaded and finally made her go talk to a friend and inspect her kitchen that had stainless. Best argument I ever won, we went with white porcelain. Why people buy stainless KNOWING all the drawbacks is beyond me.

Steel wool can be harder than stainless and leave scratches...
A cheap product that works amazingly well on stainless is "Barkeepers Friend" it works much better than other powdered abrasives...

We have stainless steel appliances and the "special" cleaners all left a slight oil finish - looks good, but don't touch it or you will have to re-apply the cleaner.
Now we just use Windex, as I'm looking at it now there are no smudges or prints, no more "special" cleaners for us.

It is funny how things go in fads, and how often we are all slaves to them. I guess we all like to change things up now and then.

We have some matte and semi-gloss black appliances, they can look dingy too but not as bad as stainless. White is hard to beat and I think it will make a comeback now that we have been through avocado, harvest gold, black and stainless.

I read recently that granite counter tops are no longer the latest and greatest. What is the world coming to?

I was there for the Avocado batch!! As for Granite and the other "stone" types, I agree, I am seeing a 'turn-off' on them due to the staining problem.

I remember the Avocado era and also an off red or bronze color they used.
