looks like one end of that draft cam is threaded.

I know on a ford, we have a cam and a follower pin, and one or both can wear .. so check wear on your cam while you have it all apart.

I think I have sorted it.
I think the draft response cam depresses the pin at the top of the valve plunger.
Although old, all the parts looked in good condition. Of course only time will tell.
