Posthole Digger Stand to store my Post Hole Digger?

ETF:

I don't mind a bit. Candor compels me to disclose that I took most of the design from an earlier TBN post and only modified a couple of details, so it really isn't my design. (the log splitter that I'm building, however, is another matter, I am adding lots that is fairly original to it)

I have gotten so much valuable information from various TBNers since I joined that whatever input of mine turns out to be useful to others, I am still WAY ahead. Fortunately, nobody seems to keep score. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BTW, I don't have to use a chain hoist at all; I just position the dolly behind tractor and PHD and raise the PHD boom until it is just under the crossbar (having TnT helps, since you can use the hydraulic toplink to bring the boom up quickly and easily). I then fasten it under the crossbar with the chain, zero out pressure on the top and lower links, detach from the 3ph and drive away. The PHD and dolly can then be easily wheeled to wherever in the barn I have room for it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Go to the Danuser web site. They make posthole diggers and also make a nice stand. They have a picture and price of the stand on their web site.

So many neat man made PHD hangers!

Guess I'm a tree hanger at heart...even though over winter I hang mine from a rafter in the shed.

Since no one posted a picture of a tree hanging PHD yet (At least I don't think anyone did) here's what I do. Just a piece of rope, nothing fancy...works quite well. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi Doug, Well I ended up using the beam support in the basement of my Bank Barn, Put a beam trolley on it and I was a little suprised while the tractor was almost at full lift it was high enough to just chain it to the trolley. I just hook it and release... Nice to roll it outta my way... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Please no comments about the custom home-made Digger, I bought it local from the OLE Farmer that made it... I works smooth as butter and the price was right /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Maybe that's the answer Henro, I'm just a tree hanger. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tom, I read that thread when I got my PHD. That's where I got the chain hoist idea. Originally, I only dangled it from the tree as a stop gap measure until I got around to building my stand. I liked it so much and it was so easy to mount it that I never did build the stand but I think I now have a rainy day project or maybe a rainy couple of days project. I'm slowing down as I get older. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This is a picture of my stand made from 2-1/2x3/16 and 2x1/4 square tubing.

Handle stores inside lower square tubing.

2" top L shaped piece slides inside verticle 2-1/2 sq tube & sits on top of a bolt for height adjustment, leaving it loose to lift up with one hand or hydraulics, while inserting or removing a pin that attaches it to the post hole digger.

The trick is to install the pin tab (on the digger) almost balanced so it is will go down for storage and easy to lift with one hand to connect to the tractor. Attach to top link post first, then lift the lift links & place on post hold digger. Raise the digger with the hydraulics and inch or two, then easily remove the pin from the storage rack.

This also has storage for another auger.

I was curious if you had any measurements so I could try to recreate the stand? Or if you could make a rough set of plans for it?

135, That is another great idea! BTW, I think that auger looks great. Home made? Wow. Where did you get that trolley ? Thanks for sharing.
