I hope you aren't speaking of my post. If you are, please explain.
I don't believe I broke any laws and neither did my insurance carrier.
My company gave an honest reasonable bid on the work and the insurance adjuster agreed and they paid for it.

Randy I thought you were going to refer to this comment made by JHT.

"I'm hoping for another hurricane so I can make $20,000/day like these
fine people who came down and "helped" my community"

If the fine people of Louisianna would haved helped themselves as you did, the other fine people wouldn't have had a market gap to fill.

I live in Tornado country. When a tornado wipes out a farmstead the community helps clean it up. Without FEMA, SEMA and whoever else.

I understand the magnitude of the hurricane is different. But let's not make negative comments about contractors who stepped in to fill a market gap that was created by communities who chose to wait for someone else to clean up their mess, unlike yourself. :)

Let's also be careful of overgeneralizing about any group of people. I'm sure there were some people in LA who waited for the handouts. There were also some people who were on subsistence wages, were living in apartments with no access to chainsaws, tractors, etc. and who lost everything they ever had to the storms and flooding. Those people didn't have much of a way to "clean up their mess"... Some of them really had no way to help themselves.

I'm as angry as anyone about the way the various government agencies "played politics" with the situation, but I don't live or vote in New Orleans (or LA for that matter), so all I can do is try to ensure that the same thing won't happen in my community or state.

Oh, yeah - and be as creative as JHTFarmer when and if the time comes that I have to deal with the situation. Made me stop and think! If he had waited until the storm hit, it would have been far too late to start the ball rolling on an LLC...

The last thing I'll say is this: I was never as proud of our country as I was when the entire country basically came together as one, and "took in" the residents of LA who were displaced by the storms. Two of my kids had left home by then, and I tried to volunteer to host a family of 4-5 people in our two "extra" rooms. It was three days after the storm hit before I could get down to the shelter, because I was busy helping load up bottled water, food, etc. for the emergency workers that was provided by my employer. Boy, was I surprized when the folks at the shelter told me that they already had housing lined up for all of the victims - this was only 3 days after the shelter in Dallas opened! Several others at my company (and at my church) had similar experiences. I guess you had to be "quick" because there were so many volunteers!
