We have a 2017 Nova with the push button start, no keys. When stopping at a traffic light the engine dies just like it is supposed to.
Can this gas saver system be bypassed? I am concerned about wearing the starter out.

Edit.... We have a Malibu, not a Nova. :confused3:

start stop vehicles are designed with a much heavier duty starter, dealers will not bypass the system. some vehicles have after market support to disable it, but if its designed that way why mess with it.your concerns are unfounded.

Keep the car in sport mode if you have that option. It should disable the auto shut off

My vehicle has a button on the dash to turn it off.
Start the engine, then push the button and it disables the start/stop feature.

We've got a Toyota with an easy settable mode to enable/disable start-stop.
In this car's case, it's from the menu accessible from buttons on the steering wheel.

If I knew what a 2017 Nova was, I could probably help you find how to turn it off - sounds like a Chevy but I'm not aware of a Nova being made in the last 20+ years...

i was wondering this myself, unless its in another country? there has not been a nova built here for a long time. looks like the last ones world wide were model year 88?

One of the reasons I bought a new F150 when I did (2016) was because the 2017s were all going to have the start/stop feature that would absolutely drive me nuts. That, plus the 2017 models were going to a new and different transmission and I didn't want to serve as Ford's beta transmission tester!

I edited my question. We have a Malibu, not a Nova. I don't know where that came from, I have never owned a Nova. I've had lots of Chevy Impala, Malibu, Chevelle, pickup, I even had a Biscayne once but never a Nova.

Apparently on that car the only thing you can do is put the transmission in L6 (shift to L, hit the + button) and it won't start/stop.
The only alternative is an electrical mod (https://www.chevymalibuforum.com/forums/121-problems-service-issues-troubleshooting-generation-9/70129-auto-stop-2016-malibu-ls-5.html).

I'l try that L6 thing......

thanks

on another note, I have owned a Nova.
I bought a brand new 87 nova for Mrs.tiller and she drove it for 7 years. How could I have forgotten that?
