That engine probably has a zillion miles on it and is llikely low on compression to start with. I don't think that would work with a new engine.

Done it with an old VW and an old 4cyl Jeep when they had dead batteries.

Is the clutch and brake working right? Who's job is it to crawl under the truck and get the jack out?

The guys mowing Mom's hay last year apparently blew a starter motor in one of their tractors so they were push, or pull starting the tractor, then managed to do something and tore out the transmission. I still have troubles imagining what they did, but perhaps it is best to just fix the starter motor.

Yup it wont, because it needs a turn before the injection management has its timing right, it must first get a timing sensor readout... Also some engines delay injection for a few turns so the hydraulic valve lifters can fill up before ignition.
