Starter for YM2000

BINGO!!! . . That appears to be the one; however if they are $219, reman., w/exchange, $303, if your core is not rebuildable, that's pretty pricey. I would rather pay $400 new.
California, do you happen to have a part # off your Denso(Bosch) starter? I don't need a starter, but I am trying to compile a list of reasonably priced parts and/or reman. locations for future reference.

Attached is an old photo I made of the engine model # tag and the rebuild date painted on the starter. The starter is out of focus, sorry!

Note a safety issue in the picture. Clamping a jumper cable or float charger to the large terminal can easily touch the crank-the-engine terminal an inch away. There should be rubber covers on both.

I found this thread while searching for a replacement starter for my Yanmar 2210. I found the Nappa part number 91-25-1080 still worked. They wanted $259 for their starter. I also found a new part number RAY-446011 on the Nappa WEB site. The picture of the RAY-446011 looks like my starter.

I also shopped O'Reilly Auto and found that Dixie Electric makes a starter (Part Number S8789) that cross references the Hitachi S114-146 starter I just pulled out of my tractor. The part at O'Reilly Auto is selling for $159. I am sure all of these are rebuilt prices, and not new. The starter will be in next week. Then I will see if this is a good replacement. This site has helped me greatly. I hope someone else can find this information useful.

We carry the S114-146 rebuilt for the same price, as do others. We have excellent parts support for the 2210. Does O'Reilly need a good core (we do...the core charge is nearly the price of the rebuilt starter)? If they don't, then that is a better buy for someone whose core is not rebuildable.

Ask O'Reilly if they require an identical core. If you have their permission to turn in a cheaper one, you might get back some of your cost by selling the core!

Recently at Autozone I had the following conversation.

"Group 27 battery? That's huge. Whats it for?"

Yanmar Tractor.

"Never heard of it. The computer says you have a Subaru. That takes a Group 35, about half the capacity of Group 27."

Ok, I'll buy this Group 27 for the Subaru then. Will you accept the Subaru battery for the core? (the 1999 Subaru battery has actually been in the tractor for the last 3 years).

"Sure...I guess...ok...I guess that makes sense... ".

Local Yanmar dealer wanted $300 for the starter plus a $300 core since I had no starter for the core on my 1979 YM2000BD.

This one was WAY less, $157.95 delivered to my door with no core charge!

Works fine if you extend the small "start" wire about 6".
You did real good!! I think that's the same model starter I have. Something looks simplified about that auction photo. I wonder if that is a replica starter rather than a Denso.

On mine also, the 'start' wire is extended since the terminal is farther from the block - see my photo above.

After reading this, yet another YM starter thread, the terrible thought came to me that maybe YM should give up on electric starters and start putting hand cranks on their tractors. Or all YM units should be manual gear to be parked at the top of a hill facing down to get started....or those of us with powershifts just need to leave them running all the time.
