Hello.

I've been reading past discussions and have some interest in the
electrical diagram needed to install a relay. The discussions have
been about starting problems related to the starter of the 7000
series Cub Cadet Compact tractors. I have a 7274.

Thanks in advance.

I have provided a picture of an actual installation plus pictures of the relay and relay plugged into a socket.
Most autoparts stores sell relays and sockets for approx $10. Get a 5 pin relay not a 4 pin so that my instructions make sense.
Remove the small wire from the starter solenoid and connect it to terminal 85.
Connect a ground wire to terminal 86. It does not have to be larger than 16 guage.
Connect a heavy guage wire, perhaps 12 guage, from the main battery terminal on the starter solenoid to terminal 30 on the relay.
Connect a 12 guage wire from terminal 87 on the relay to the terminal on the starter solenoid where you removed the wire and connected it to terminal 85. This is the wire coming from the ignition switch.

I have added a push button switch to start my Cub Cadet 6000 series tractor. I am using a 5-Pin relay. Here is my wiring diagram.

Why do you need the relay?

Problems are caused by the starter solenoid drawing too much current for the ignition switch and/or wiring. The relay requires little current to energize it and can pass more current to the solenoid. This fix can be used for many other applications like adding lights, horns etc.

Why do you need the relay?

It was recommended to me by another member. Too much current for most switches, I assume. I really like the push-button start. (My key starter stopped working.)
