EV;

Get a winch or a come-along and drag it on the trailer. Then you can bring it home and spend some quality time changing fluids and pre-oiling the cylinders, pumping up tires and all the other stuff you won't have time for over a weekend, five hours away from all your tools, etc. I love dragging home old stuff and getting it working again. Good Luck.

Thanks for all the help guys! Yea I think I will just drag it home and put it in my shop so I can devote some real time to diagnosing any trouble that could show up. I am able to borrow a 16 foot car trailer from work and i own a heavy half ton pickup, so getting it home won't be to hard a haul. Also the father in law has a 970 case with a loader wich we will use to pulll it onto the trailer. Thanks again

Something no one else has mentioned....once you know its "free" and turns over easily without the plugs, and you have spark, put the plugs in and give the carb a quick shot (not much) of starter fluid...at that point you will know whether it wll run or not once you get gas to it...Good luck! I think that you are on the right track get it loaded and home before trying to start it.

It would seem to me that a lot of the questions you are raising could be answered better by your FIL. Undoubtedly he knows more about the tractor than we do.

Well, I finally got the tractor home! Before I spend too much money on fixing up the tractor, I am going to try and start it. What i have done soo far is turn over the motor by hand and then hooke it up to a battery charger (no battery in the tractor yet) and was able to get it to turn over successfully. But i believe that there is no spark. I do not have a spark plug socket yet to pull the plugs out but i pulled off one of the wires and did not get a visable spark. I can smell gas thru the exhaust so i figure that fuel is getting to the cylinders. I then pulled off the distb. cap and scratched the points but all looked pretty clean, i also tried to measure voltage on the line side of the coil but got no reading. What should be my next step? In the AM I thought ablut checking the genny and the regulator? Any points will help, do I need a battery installed to polarize the coil as I have been reading on this site abiut this too? Thanks in advance

get a battery on it before trying to start it.. even a booster charger with a start option is not enough power for the ignition and the starter.. even yer truck battery should do for a test.. heck.. throw the booster on as well.
