What is a good starting fluid for a diesel tractor?

As a rule, none. Some older stuff was designed to use it but didn’t have any glow plugs or a heater grid. The problem is with glow plugs or heater grid things can explode. Needing starting fluid is a symptom that something is wrong.

Thanks for the reply. My kioti CK 25 HST wouldn’t start this today so I gave it a small shot of starting fluid from TSC it stated on the can ok for Diesel although I know better, once it started like normal fast it ran for about an hour while I hooked up bush hog, turned it off and tried to restart and nothing.
I’m thinking fuel pump, any thoughts?

X3 on none.
I have used a heat gun or hair dryer in the air intake for stubborn diesels.
My gasoline walk behind gets a portable heater on the intake below 50f to save me from having to pull it 20 times. Fortunately that's only a few times in the spring and fall.

It acts like it’s not getting any fuel on the start!

Start with the simpler things first. If it's turning over, confirm fuel flow by removing fuel line from the tank out (one at a time).
Replace the fuel filters if they are even remotely due, confirm that the electric lift pump (if equipped) is working. After that, the fuel shut off solenoid is a frequent culprit

I know it’s getting fuel because it ran got about an hour after a quick shot on starting fluid. I’m going to clean the filter and disconnect the line coming in and out of the pump in that order that should tell me something! Will check back in later!

Thinking that the glow plugs aren’t working? If they were you would’ve experienced a bang due to the ether. Kinda like a house full of gas fumes and someone flicks a light switchā€¦šŸ˜¬

Well I’ve checked to see if it’s getting fuel and it is all the way to the rail with the three gear things! It’s a 2005 model, I will check to see if the injectors are getting fuel tomorrow. I might have to take it in😩😩. I’ll post again tomorrow. Thanks for all the helpā˜®ļøāœŒšŸ»

Is your battery good? Sometimes they crank but crank slow.

Battery is fully charged, spins like always.
Someone mentioned the glow plugs the dash shows the symbol as always stays on for nine seconds when motor is cold!

I have lived my life with junk. Never have I had to take an injector pump off. I have one that is a 1958 model, and diesel. It has never been off. You have a glow plug problem or a starvation problem. I don't think it's the shut off. But you can pull it and take the plunger off and install back and check it that way. I don't use starting fluid. WD-40 or gas on a soaked rag is less violent than starting fluid. And I put it outside the air cleaner so it mixes with some air before it gets inside engine.

Thanks I will try that later!

Well the glow plugs are getting power 9 + volts. I’m going to call a couple of dealers tomorrow, I’ve had the best luck with a Kioti dealer in Washington about an hour away
Have to rent a trailer and winch it up.
The one close by is fairly new and I wasn’t impressed with the work ethic there!
I’ll post when I have more info!
Thanks everyone for your input. I know I can always count on the TBN family!šŸ‘šŸ»

I remember back in the day with my old International 6.2. I had the hairdryer / gas soaked rag to get it to pop when it was below freezing. Nice motor but totally gutless.

I just thought of something. How can I raise the loader up to get the tractor on the trailer?

Just use your other tractor to lift the loader...lol You can use a floor jack just hold the joy stick in the up position....
