Are there any mid 1960's tractors that can compete with a new 4x4 hydrostatic CUT ?
They did make some smaller tractors in the 1960"s . Now a CUT has to be compact to fit the definition so we can exclude any large tractor then and now. So at what level do you want them to compete at? Price for unit work performed, or slope they can climb doing unprofitable work? Makes a difference doesn't it?
The latest technology is pretty awesome but the tractors of the sixty's paid the bills of those that bought them. It remains to be seen if the latest gee wiz tractors will prove to be worth the price.

Depends on the task...in a drawbar to drawbar towing competition, I'd guess the 1960's tractor would walk away with most any CUT manufactured today

Roy...does this assume the '60's tractor had 4wd? A friend of my dad's had a Ford Workmaster with an Elenco FWD conversion in the middle '60's and it was about a 1960 model...he used it with an FEL and BH in his excavating business. I am sure that model could outpull most modern CUTS but....it had the advantage of 4WD. Very few older tractors had that when today 4WD is almost a given.

Maybe not 4WD or MFWD, but they had the weight and weight equals traction. One measurement you'll see on Tractordata.com (on larger and older tractors) is draw bar HP. I'm not a farmer, but I'd guess this is a measurement of pulling power. I don't think our little CUTs provide a lot of pulling power...not compared to many of the 1960's tractors.

There was a Youtube video of a pickup (diesel Dodge, IIRC) and a midsized Deere (3520 or 3720 with a cab) hooked together trailer hitch to draw bar. This was just a couple goofs making a video, not a competition, seeing which vehicle could out pull the other. The pickup walked away with the tractor...wasn't even close
Couldn't find the video on YouTube.

Don't get me wrong, our CUTs are serviceable equipment for the task we use them for.

I agree with Roy. Put a smaller utility tractor from the 1960's (Case 430, JD 1010, Allis D-10 or 12) against a 30 hp CUT and I am sure the older tractor will outpull the compact, even with the compact having 4wd. I have an Allis G- it has 10 hp but will plow with a 12" single plow in virgin soil-I have never plowed with my B 2620, but I am sure would not handle a plow like the G.

Having said that, I really appreciate hydrostatic drive, power steering, padded seat, 3 pt hitch attachments, and all the other features of the Kubota!

Sorry for taking this thread so far off topic....first with the ether injection post and now this debate about pulling power...me bad.

The truck would outweigh the tractor by half a ton or more. The trucks higher hitch height was also transfer weight onto the truck from the tractor.

I saw that video too. It was on pavement though, where the truck's tires had a huge advantage over that tractor's agricultural tires. I would be interested to see the result on dirt.

EDIT - just looked and found a few.
