State auctions

I was wondering if anyone here goes to either SC or VA state surplus auctions for equipment? I'm looking for a service truck and few more pieces of equipment.

If you have been, was the stuff completely wore out?

I have been to a few town auctions, had real good luck with a tractor but not so much with a dump truck. I think the state highway departments typically take better care of their fleet...a good lookover will reveal quite a bit.

I have been by the Harrisonburg VA VDOT storage lot for surplused vehicles/equipment - the equipment I have seen is in VERY rough condition.. A lot of it also seemed to be missing parts as well

I was thinking if the state lets it go, it's might be on it's last leg. Maybe buy two of the same and make one.:laughing:

I've been to a few and if you're looking for something cheap then you usually can find something that could suit your needs. The few better vehicles (and other things) seam to have a number of bidders. I've even seen what I think are dealers bidding up to wholesale price and then stopping. It could be different down there and if you have free time go take a look. Just look over anything you may buy closely.
