I had H & R Block do my taxes this year. They wanted to scan my drivers license. NOPE. If they can not do the taxes w/out scanning my DL - there are others who will.

Now this is what REALLY frosted me. They said - OK - went ahead and did my taxes w/out scanning my DL.

I wonder who they planned on selling my DL info to - ???

In Massachusetts that's the law. The tag price trumps the shelf label that trumps the price stored by barcode in the register. The "free" is a good-will gesture by the merchant; kuidos to "Big Y" and "Whole Paycheck" the two grocers closest to me.

(I'm intersted to see if the censors still dislike the card-playing metaphor.)
I really miss Big Y. Moved to NEK VT and the closest store to that quality is Price Chopper/Market 32. Until the recent renovation, it was a 80's throwback store. Granted, this is mainly a lower income and tourist destination.

We went to H&R once, when step daughter was in college. Both my wife and I knew more than the "accountant" who typed slower than the hunt and peck typer I am. He continually went to another persons desk to ask how to do things. Charge was by the hour, and for a very simple tax return, along with college forms, they billed us $500. I complained, went up the ladder, until I got something back. Never again.

I'm spoiled on tax returns - I know. For the previous 15 years a local CPA did our taxes. A really nice gal - but she retired.

Only charged $100. Next year - I will be on the "hunt" again.

A few years ago The Peoples Democratic Republic of Massachusetts began asking for the taxpayer's drivers license, but the law says that it is optional. Another instance where I have opted out; I expect creeping statism will soon make it mandatory.

Mom and pop stores are quickly being erased.
Went to Lowe’s the other day, had to use self checkout, none others open. In order to get my military discount they wanted me to scan my drivers license. Nope, that’s not gonna happen. I’m sure lots of others will without complaint.

You can't do Ag-related sales tax exemptions there either so, they have to open a register for me "IF" they want my business.

Need your drivers license info to file.

Which Irs form uses my DL number?
None if you mail it in. If you efile, it’s needed or you can’t file. Or maybe that’s just a TurboTax thing, but pretty sure all efile needs it.

Since thread drift not allowed, wonder if Ted will efile this year.
