How about putting one of those blades in the chop saw? Would certainly have enough power and is probably built stouter than the average WW circular saw.

Chop saws are way to fast. at least by a factor of 2

Also the published speeds for most of the worm drive saws seem to be in the 4400 rpm range, about 3 times faster than a cold saw.. Just like my vertical bandsaw, it is made for cutting wood and goes way to fast for metal even though metal blades are readily available for it.

Just for curiosity's sake, I looked up a few saws on Lowe's site.

Dewalt chop saw 4000rpm
Skil direct drive circular saw 5600rpm
Skil worm drive circular saw 4600rpm
Harbor Freight metal cutting 7 1/4" circular saw 3500rpm.

Looks like a chop saw is not that bad of choice. It's a lot closer to the rpm of the metal saw than the others.

I think the rage saws run 2500 rpm. 4000 is way high for that...

I have a Rage 7 1/4" skill saw, and love it. The blades hold up, if you use it for what it is designed for. They can be resharpened. I did buy a Lenox blade for it, but haven't used it yet.

Well I looked on rages web site and most of their 7 1/4 saws run at 2500 so I was wrong with the "factor of 2 statement" but still a chop saw at 4000 would be fast compared to 2500.. I was thinking they ran at 1500 like other cold saws but apparently not. I believe tho that as the blade gets larger you would need to run it at a slower rpm to maintain the samecut speed in surface feet per minute so a 14 inch cutoff saw blade if replaced with a 14 inch cold saw blade since it is larger would need to run that much slower. I do not think putting the cold saw blades in a machine not designed for them is a good idea.

I picked up a speed reducer for the chop saw that I have not used since I bought the HF cold saw. When I locate a cheaper priced metal cutting blade I am going to give it a try. The likely issues are that the saw will not enough torque with the speed reduced. Anybody have a line on a cheap 12" metal cutting blade?

I looked into buying one of the Evolation Rage saws, just about pulled the trigger, then I thought why? I think that saw is a high production saw, and I'm not in that big of a hurry. I think you'd get more bang for your buck with a port a band.
I've read where a carpenter's skil saw turns too many rpms for the steel blades. Maybe you should just use an abrasive skil saw blade in your saw.

I'm with you--portable band saw. I have an $80 cheapie from Harbor Freight and use Milwaukee 24 teeth per inch blades at slow speed (the saw has a variable speed trigger control with lock button). Cuts 1/4" 4x4" tubing like butter.
