Steel siding/roofing from Lowes-pricing?

I buy my metal from Muellers, which is a metal building supply company that makes all their own products. Their R panels are 26 gauge, which is quite a bit thicker then the 29 gauge you listed. When estimating the cost of materials, I figure $2 a foot for each R panel. I would expect to pay about $24 for a 12 foot long, 3 foot wide, 26 gauge R panel with a very good paint job.

R Panel - Mueller, Inc

If you are a couple hours from one of their locations, it would be worth your time to give them a call and see what they will charge you. They will cut each Panel to the length that you want, to the inch. Their screws are top quality, and they will walk you through what else you need to do your project.

You must have a mistake in your first post. Online, Lowes shows the 12 ft panels from $25 for the galvanized, $30 for the painted. You listed $60.98..... that is way high... I think a mistake in price...

Not in our area but I am sure there has to be a similar outfit for the PNW. What intrigues me is that they claim you can lay directly over composite shingles. I don't know if this is a good idea but I like the idea to save the trouble and cost of removal and disposal. Additionally, you would keep some R (insulating) value.

Any thoughts on a direct overlay?

I lay 1x4s over the shingles, nail through to the roof boards, then screw the panels to them.

I use Discount Metal Roofing - $75 DELIVERY NATIONWIDE - 800.861.2091 for all of my metal roofing. Much cheaper than I can get locally, and they will cut to the 1/4". They are a $1 cheaper per foot than Home Depot or Lowes. They sell 29 and 26 gauge metal in all different styles and colors.

Close to what I paid a couple months ago for my shed roof panels at AB Martin in Ephrata PA. Made to the length I asked for. I used 26 ga textured painted panels at $2.89 LF. Picked it up at their facility. When I placed my order and asked how much lead time they needed the guy said to give them a couple hours.

I overlaid our 15 y/o shingle roof about 10 years ago with 26 gauge. No problems whatsoever. The only PIA doing it was cutting all of the edges off of the overhang shingles. Just make sure your screws are long enough. I used 2 inch screws. We are in a high wind area, again no problems.

Here is what I'm seeing on my end-maybe it varies regionally?

I would definitely check around for a local supplier/producer. I recently built a 12x24 building and put metal on the roof and walls. Local company that produces the metal sells it for 1.65 per LF. Screws and trim extra, of course. Order one day, ready for pickup the next.

A place about 20 miles from here had better prices and appropriated colored screws in stock vs the box stores. They cut them to length while I waited. Back when I bought some rebar a local steel yard had way better prices than the box stores. 20' lengths too and they cut them in half no charge.
