With steel prices what they are, you could probably sell it to a scap dealer and retire early /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Steel prices are going up, but are scrap prices going up as well?

I took a trailer load of stuff to the dump near the inlaws home. It was mostly steel - two exercise machines, a metal garage cabinet, lawn furniture etc. maybe 250 lbs of steel content in odd shapes. I was surprised the dump didn't want it dumped in a recycle pile. I was directed to the landfill and the stuff was covered by earth immediately. I asked the attendant why don't they recycle the steel and he just shrugged, not his problem.

Are scrap steel prices that low?

Covering it with earth IS recycling... just really slow! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Around here scrap tin/steel is $18 a ton. I thought that prep steel was closer to $35, aleast that is what I remember when talking to the neighbor last week. This is in mid Illinois.
