Steering Problem- Is this really happening?

Once again I learned something new here. Don't have any hydro steering systems but who knows what the future brings.

It seems that that would be a problem for using a spinner as it would change locations. Kinda hard to grab it while looking elsewhere.

I have hyd steering on my NH7610s... it will creep around.. but if you move slow.. you can 'reposition' the wheel and get back to where you want to be.. etc..

Right about the hydraulic steering.
I would check your reservoir level for it. Mine is separate from the other hydraulics. When it gets low my steering wheel will turn and the wheels don't move. Check it out?

Nope, it is broken :D . So badly brokne that the cost to repair it is soo much money that I will save you. I will buy it from you and save you the cost and embarassment of having it fixed locally. don't drive it anymore, it will only get worse! We can discuss price off line, but be prepared to take a loss :D ! I am doing you a favor!

Whoaaaaa there DocBob.........Nearly wet myself reading your post. You can borrow any tool in the garage, heck even dance all night with the Mrs, but I'm not getting divorced from this 990 - no way baby!

Check your tire pressures, especially the rears. You can use differential pressure to keep the machine going straight on a roadway or paved driveway. The steering valve probably has a slight leak from a worn or scratched o-ring or valve body. Nor worth worrying about, yet. If it blows out you will be only able to have proper steering in one turn direction, only. Without a torsion bar in the valve or without valve stops (as in car/truck systems) you have power steering, not power-assisted steering.

Every single vehicle ever made that uses an orbital steering and no solid link between the steering wheel and tie rods will do this, some a little worse than others. Turn your steering wheel all the way one direction or the other and hold pressure on it for a few seconds. Watch what your steering wheel does. It will slowly keep turning but the front wheels are against their stops and can not. This is the same leakage going on as happens anytime you are driving.

I guess hydro steering is like politics, it will creep off to the left if you don't keep correcting it

I recently drove my (brand new) JD990 down the county road for a few miles to our other property. As I was going straight most of the time, the steering wheel only needed a few nudges to keep me going in my lane. Heres the fun part...

...after 30 minutes the steering wheel had made about 1.5 total revolutions - while I was still going straight! It kept gradually creeping counterclockwise all the time - this is not a guess on my part because the spinner knob kept making its way around the dial as I went down the road. I thought it was a twilight zone moment......and expected at any time to have the wheel pop off or a linkage drop sending me into the ditch. Did the same thing on the way back home too - but never clockwise.

Steering is responsive; the steering wheel is not loose - any guesses on what is going on here. I am definitely calling the dealer tomorrow because this just doesn't seem right - right?

I figured it out the hard way. When I 1st got the TC40D I put a necker knob on the steering wheel. Moved that darn thing 4 times before I figured out what was going on! ;)
