I think it will hold up - even if you pull on it all the time. My earlier post shows why it fails. Of course it can handle the forces of you grabbing it to assist you on to the tractor. I already went through this with the folks at New Holland technical support.
It had a design flaw - period.
The newer version should hold up for many years - or so I am told. Make sure to ask to see the new unit if you ever replace it - read my earlier post and look for the improved design attributes.
