Just bought me a spinner a for my little manual steering tractor. It did not come with any instructions. I believe it will make backing and manuevering much easier. It appears that it would be best installed at the 6 o'clock position. (Assuming the wheels are facing straight ahead). Can anyone confirm this?

The one on my tractor is at ten o'clock, I also have one in my pickup, great for maneuvering trailers, that one folds and is installed at two o'clock. Why? I don't know it just seems comfortable for me

Sailor, Suggest you try the seven o clock position if you are right handed. Have them on three vehicles including my JD and use them to steer with exclusely. This allows me to use the right hand for all controls, making adjustments etc. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Spinner -- manual steering ?

Keep a good grip or expect some owies! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

One of my tractors has power assisted steering, the kind with a cylinder assisting the manual linkage. It has a large diameter steering wheel so making quick turns is cumbersome without the spinner. My spinner is also at 7:00 o'clock and really increases the manuverability of the tractor. My newer tractor has very easy steering and a smaller diameter steering wheel, so I just hook a finger on a spoke on it to turn.

Bob put the spinner wherever it's comfortable for you. On tractors equipped w/power steering like our NH 40D the position of the knob is constantly changing, even so I still find it a very useful addition.

I bought a JD spinner, and for the life of me couldn't figure out how to install it! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif There was no obvious position on the wheel where all the parts seemed to make sense. Does it go on the rim of the wheel, or on one of the spokes? It's been sitting in my garage for whenever I got up the courage to ask someone how the heck you install this thing. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The 10 or 7 o'clock position seems to make sense since I am right handed and the controls (throttle and 3 pt lift are on the right side -- no foot throttle). Now that I think about it I believe that I normally hold the wheel with my left hand in about the 7 o'clock position. I bet it will save a lot of wear an tear on my arms too.

Thanks guys. I am glad I posted the question.

no power steering

Trev it will straddle one of the spokes and the wheel, you may have to "adjust" it to make it fit your wheel flush.
