Steiner 450 - only reverse

Hi -

My 2021 450 only goes backwards. It feels like something with the hand control/foot control as opposed to an engine/transmission. FWIW - it goes backwards very fast!

Anyone experienced this before?

Is it possible to access from the top?

If not, creative suggestions to get it up off the ground? It is in a field and not in a garage.

I would also suspect some linkage came apart but have no clue on how to access the linkage. if memory is correct the pumps are in front of the pivot point so is linkage all also in front of the pivot?

Here is an excerpt of the troubleshooting page 39 of the manual.

I agree with oldnslo that it might be a linkage, but you should check easy things first like hyd fluid level and such.

Thank you. Very helpful. Welcome any tips for getting under the thing. Will try to get it partially on some wood ramps or the trailer ramp, but perhaps other ideas out there. Maybe a HF Atv/mower lift will be enough?

Since it is in a field, getting under it is about the last thing I'd want to do.

Can you give us more of an idea of what you have checked already? Have you removed the pump cover to check the neutral linkage and the neutral lock which is on p.35 of the manual. Check Hi/Lo range lever. Hyd level. Etc.

Hi - closing the loop on this. Guys at Hartmann Service in PA were able to fix things. I didn't quite understand everything that was wrong, but it involved the bolt mechanisms (not hydraulics) up closer to the engine. They thought it might not have been put together correctly at time of manufacture b/c of the low miles. All good now!
