That's fun stuff Eddie! Are you and Steph going to tan the hide and make a throw rug? I've done a few and they look nice.

Occasionally I will get a shot off at one. But never from close up. Of all the animals around here, the coyote is the least seen. I see quite a few bobcats roaming around, but very few coyotes. But, we have coyote tracks all over the place and much fewer bobcat tracks. Which shows how smart and reclusive they are. Do they yip and howl where you live? When the train goes by and sounds the horn in the evenings, you can hear the different packs howling in the distance. It's the one thing I enjoy about them. Makes you feel like there is still something wild, left.

[I'll get her changed/QUOTE]

Maybe; maybe not.;) I thought with my being a police officer, having a couple of handguns besides rifles and shotguns, that my wife would learn to shoot. Well, she fired one round from one of my .38s when we were dating, some 43 years ago, and hasn't fired a gun before or since.:D

We just left the coyote lay where it is next to the hogs remains. There's a pile of bones from the hog that the buzzards are still picking over, and now the coyote for them to clean up. I actually like to watch them work!!

We see coyotes more often then deer or just about any other animal other then hogs. There really are quite a few of them around here as you can't go anywhere without seeing there tracks. About two weeks ago I took a walk along one of my trails and had a small coyote of about 20 pounds run right up on me within ten yards. I didn't have a gun with me, it was just a look around type walk, and I was curious how close it would get. When it saw me, it turns hard left and just about killed itself getting through the barbed wire fence. I almost felt sorry for it with the scare I gave it!!! :D

We hear them howling fairly often. Sometimes it sounds like there are at least a dozen of them out there. I have a cordless spotlight that I've taken with me to see if I can see any, but so far, never have. They scare Steph and the kids pretty bad, but I enjoy hearing them.

Here's a few pics that my game camera caught of a coyote or three different ones. There's no way to know for sure. The gut pile is off to the left of the screen, out of site.

150 yards! Way to go Steph - that was a great shot. I especially appreciated the photo showing where you hit it. Very impressive shooting.

We have a lot of coyotes at our place here in Illinois. Two really big ones ran across the field north of the house about 8:00 a.m. yesterday. A friend was here, we looked at each other and in the same voice said, "wish I had a 30-06 with a good scope." Glad you had one and were prepared.

Thank you everyone for the kind words and compliments. Steph and I really appreciate reading them.

This morning, I was watching the gut pile and Steph's coyote when one showed up. Same situation, except it was just me here alone.

Here's a few pics.

I put her next to her friend and hope for a third!!

Boy, good thing you hit it. You would never live it down if you missed.
I wish I was closer. I would take the pelts. Some coyote pelts are bringing $25.

this was from our local paper. A friend had one in his sights during rifle, but his loud safety click sent it running.

TUNKHANNOCK Courtney Veeck, a Susquehanna University senior biology major, dipped her hand into the belly of a freshly killed coyote and, after some searching, pulled out a bulging stomach pouch.

She was among four students who took turns carefully removing the stomachs out of coyotes on Sunday, and who will study those specimens in a lab for clues to the wild animal痴 diet.

鉄ome (stomachs) are full, some are not full at all, but those are the sickly ones, said Ms. Veeck.

The donated stomachs came courtesy of the sportsmen who participated in this weekend痴 seventh annual Northeastern Pennsylvania Coyote Hunt. Hosted by the District 9 Pennsylvania Trappers Association, the three-day event wrapped up Sunday.

笛ust the fact that we can put it to good use the research. I can稚 wait to get back to school and examine the insides, because who knows what you値l find, Ms. Veeck said.

The stomachs were removed on-site at the coyote weigh-in location at the Triton Hose Fire Company building.

For sportsmen, the hunt offered an opportunity to track and kill game between deer and trout seasons. Hunters could scout coyote in eight counties: Lackawanna, Susquehanna, Luzerne, Bradford, Sullivan, Wyoming, Wayne and Pike.

Association treasurer Ed Price said the stomach research will help people understand coyotes better.

的t痴 all in the education the more they learn, the more we can learn about the environment, especially for animals that are so elusive, he said.

The event has gained popularity since it began with more than 200 hunters; there were up to 718 this year. Last year, organizers set an event record with 805 hunters, Mr. Price said.

Jeff Cragle, of Luzerne County, took home the grand prize of $2,000 for the heaviest coyote, weighing 43.85 pounds. This year 21 coyotes were weighed in at the hunt from Friday through Sunday.

Tunkhannock resident Stewart Boice shot a 30-pound male coyote Sunday morning, on land near the fire towers in Forkston. He said he put a coyote call out and about eight coyotes responded with howls.

的 will get it fully mounted, Mr. Boice said as he watched the students remove his coyote痴 stomach.

Mr. Price said icy weather this weekend affected hunter turnout, as most hunters use tracking dogs to hunt coyotes, but the ice hurts their paws.

He said state coyote hunting laws are more liberal than other game hunting guidelines: hunters can use bait and dogs, and may hunt on Sunday and during deer and bear season.

典he resource can stand it, Mr. Price said.

展e have plenty, and not only that, but if the population gets out of control, there痴 predation.

Good on ya; if you have ever seen what a couple of six or eight mount old pup coyotes do to a heard of sheep you undestande they are vermen. I guess the Wolves releasted in Yellowstone have migraded as far south as Morgan county Utah. Not a good time to be in the cattle biz.
