Don't know about Cat Mufflers... but, it wouldn't surprise me.

Any idea on why one Dealer offers Stihl Bonus packs and the another in the same town didn't even know they were available until I asked and they called Stihl?

Finally got the saw and some time this weekend to try it out. It's an amazing saw. While I had a bit of sticker shock, this thing was definitely worth the price. I had my old McCullough all tuned up with a brand new Oregon chain on it and there is no comparison. The MS260 went through 18" oaks like a hot knife through butter.

I know it's not really fair to compare a 15 year old McCullough with a brand new Stihl, but I was still amazed at the difference.

Yea, they are great saws. The biggest thing I've noticed compaired to my last saw is, just becuase you have all this power does not mean you should always use it. I use throttle control on this saw unlike my last which was pretty much full throttle all the time.

I've been cutting like crazy on the decent weekends and now I'm going after these nasty Osage Oranges. I just hate chewing up a good blade on these trees. They have got to be some of the hardest and nastiest trees when it comes to cutting. I've got Black Wallnut and they are a dream compaired to these things.

I know what you mean. I also have a STIHL FS90 trimmer. It's the 4/2 stroke engine and it's got amazing power spread over the rpms. I can leave it in idle, put it into a mess of stuff and give it some gas. It just spins up through it. One of my first motorcycles was a Honda SL-100 and it had a 4 cycle engine that would just put-put-put-put at idle and then generate power whenever you wanted it. I loved that old bike. The 2 cycle engines had to be revved way up before using the power.

I've used Stihls from the 026 (before they reversed their numbering system, wonder why they do that ) up through the 036, and the 046 and 066 Magnums, and they certainly are very impressive.

I was always told that in order for the small air cooled 2 stoke to properly disipate heat running it at full throttle was the thing to do. Maybe a Stihl dealer can shed some light on this?

WOT is how they are designed to run. Not only for cooling, but also, keeps the carbon away. If a customer is running Stihl brand oil, I almost never see muffler screen problems, but when I do, it's on a top handle saw. Arborist saws see a lot more idle time than ground saws and are also run part throttle a lot when just taking down small branches. Next thing you know, the screen gets clogged and it won't rev at all.

My idea on how to make a Stihl last is fresh premium fuel , as in less than 90 days old, with HP Ultra synthetic oil. Keep a sharp chain on it to reduce bar wear and a dirty air filter and when you are in the cut, run it like you stole it!

Yeah, that is true in general for 2-stroke engines. The power peak is at
or near the rev peak and the engine will be more efficient at WOT. You
can't hurt anything either as you can't over-rev like in a 4-stroke engine
with poppet valves.

I used to have an 81 Yamaha YZ125 motocross m/c, the first year that the
125 class went water-cooled. That engine was amazing with very limited
power until you reached the very narrow power band near peak RPM. When
you hit that power band, hang on.

I've owned several different Stihl's, 028WB I've had for 25 years needs an
overhaul, an 046 Magnum sold when my back went out, MS250 sold because I
was never crazy about it, my latest is a MS180 and I'm having more fun with it
than any saw I've ever had. The MS180 with the Pico Micro narrow chain is
very fast cutting. I've ran about 10 tanks of fuel through it and it's still cutting
good. When I bought the saw I was mainly looking for lightweight but also got
a great little saw in the deal.
