Just a thought here...
Are there two of these brackets? One on each side? I'd consider checking the other, if not having the other one (if it exists) re-welded now while out if service. Also, double check this did not prematurely stress another point on your MMM. You'd be a bit peeved to find another down time from other items breaking, that you could catch now. I just find that sometimes with older equipment, when something breaks, other things may be in line waiting. Just a thought.

I thought just John Deere had expensive parts. That just goes to show ya' others are nuts too. I had to replace the cast iron arm that hooks to the bucket on my JD fell last year because I bent it. A new one cost $120, so I guess I can't bit**.

How prices are established for items like that go like this. If 85% of the customers grin and bear it instead of repairing or making it them selves, that is the price that is set.

or

Cost X 10, whichever is more.

If sell price cant be at least cost x 10, then the item will be discontinued ASAP.

General industry practice.

I used to work for a major farm mfgering company. I had a lot of interface with the field service reps. They always claimed

"Our company has the best welders in the world! They can lay a bead down perfectly that has zero penetration on either part being welded.................."

Ain't that the truth. I saw a photo of a toothbar "tooth" that had come off and I was amazed that only a few tiny edges of the bead had even begun to penetrate the parent metal of the bar. I think a hot glue gun could have stuck the tooth on just as securely as that "welder".

I know that a good powerful MIG rig with a welder that knows what they are doing and has sense enough to turn up the heat can make beautiful welds with full penetration, but I sure have seen a lot of good looking but "bad" welds from MIGS. With a nasty old 6011 stick in the hands of farmer brown, he usually gets the job done and its usually stays stuck. It may not look all that pretty, but it is usually one and done.

I grew so frustrated with 6011 rods, I went to 6013 and never looked back. Won't hold as much supposedly, but much nicer looking welds, and if you overengineer and overweld like I typically do, it's not an issue. Only in a pinch would I weld with 6011 again.

I prefer 7018 to either one of them. Once you figure out how to break off the "corn" on the end to re-strike them, they weld as smooth as 6013 with much better looking welds than 6011, and stronger than either one of them. Here is one of my 7018 welds. The hook on the pad. The pad was factory welded with a MIG, and it doesn't look that great.

Looking from the dealer's and manufacturer's perspective you are paying a premium because they stock your tractor parts for 30+ years. I've never had to wait long for parts on my Kubota's or NH or JD. Many times the dealer had the parts in the same day I called for them.

Your cheap knock off chinese/russian/korean tractors become really expensive lawn ornaments when something breaks and you can't get parts for them.

I'm willing to pay more if I know I get the service and reliability I want and expect.

thats funny.... i have always recieved parts, service items in 1 to 2 days for my korean tractor... the same time it took to get parts for my Jd870. Thing is, in 7 years i havnt needed many parts ...go figure
