Sticking HST Foot Control

Pks and Msocko3; I never heard of moly before grease, but I'll sure pick some up this weekend. Thanks.

Watersjj; I have my deck on at this time, so I haven't been able to get a good look at the linkage yet. How difficult is it to get to the spring that you mention? I would like to adjust the tension to see if it can be optimized for my likes.

i have had the same problem with the hst pedal on a bx2200. it has been back to the dealer twice to be adjusted. The dealer believes the problem is in the swash plate mechanism of the transmission. they are currently talking to kubota for a solution to the problem.

Getting to the linkage is easy (at least for a B2400)-just look under the foot deck and there it is. The shock absorber attached to the linkage will control how fast the pedal returns to neutral. The spring tensions will help do the same thing. Therefore the two springs and the shock must be balanced. The B2400 manual mentions (a little) how to adjust the shock. Basically, moving the TOP nut up and down in its slot will increase or decrease pedal speed. I have set the two springs for my HST to have zero preload in the neutral position. This makes for low effort to push the pedal down. The shock is adjusted so the adjusting nut is in its topmost position. The result of these settings is that the pedal comes back to neutral at the same rate as my foot pressure is decreased. This makes for easy efforts at pushing the pedal down and instant changes if I begin to let up.

Attn: Roy, You will need to take your deck off to adjust this spring. Once the deck is off, you will see the spring and control cylinder inside the right frame under the foot control. It has a lock nut on the spring. You will have to play with the spring adjustment to suit your liking. I like for mine to be easy to push and to return as my foot pressure is released. As mentioned in original post, I disconnected the control cylinder and put a plastic tie on the cylinder rod and left the rear end attached to the linkage. If you haven't removed your mower, they are a snap. Just follow your manuel. It's pretty effortless.

Thanks, Watersjj. Once the mowing season is over, I'll play with it and see if I can also find a more suitable adjustment for the spring.

Picked up some Moly-based spray this morning. A couple of squirts, and no sticking HST. Thanks again.
