Just take it in and have made to DL count etc. If you dont know DL count etc thats all you need. Any shop worth their salt can do this easy.

Friend uses those.

On most production bars the link count is stamped on the bar at the saw head end, along with the gauge and link type.

I used bow bars for thinning when I was with the forest service in the '80s. We used the smaller radius end type like the first pic, with full guards along the top and bottom run. If you use it correctly placing the "stinger" before starting the cut its a much safer saw than a normal bar. And you don't have to bend down for every cut. I could get the saw started in the cut and then use my left hand to push on the tree so it wouldn't pinch the bar and would go where I wanted. Obviously that only works for small trees.

I wouldn't mind a bow bar set up for my brush saw but they're hard to find. The guys at the local shop just about had a cow when I asked because they've been told how unsafe they are. I'm sure that's true if you use them without the stinger and guards.

Growing up that Lower one is what we had in McCulloch brand. I wondered why they fell out of favor and read all about how dangerous they are.
All in how things are used I guess. I would like to have a new updated bow saw.

Went down to NC to help my BIL clear 8 acres and turn it into pasture.

65 year old neighbor from across the road had one...interesting saw. That man was quick with it.

He also carried an old scar from his eyebrow down to his chin from it.

I...errr...ahhhh...chose not to try it out. I'll stick with my old 346XP and 572XP.

Wow, those were the pulpwood cutters' saw of choice back in the 60's. I didn't 't know they were still available. To the OP's search: Then, and probably now, possession of the saw meant you bought chain by the reel and had your own rivet spinner.

Crap was just happening to fast for me with that modern 71cc and I am not used to them.

Think they were better suited for the older slow revving saws.

My Homelite Super Wiz gear reduction bow saw is over at a friends because it wouldn't start. He took it upon himself to tear it down and clean and paint it. Won't be the original color because that one isn't available locally. I told him that I would use it on him if he painted my bow saw PINK!
I really like that old saw, nothing better when it comes to cutting logs into firewood! I am looking for people who are knowledgeable about the old Homelite Super Wiz, or just the Wiz, but will start a new post when I have time!
