The Stihl blade part number I need is 4110-713-4204 and they are quite spendy, like $45. They are safe and hardened. I found this on ebay but not sure of its quality. I don't want any teeth flying off and killing somebody including myself. Do any of you know anything of this manufacturer or do any of you use something other than oem Stihl blades that work? Thanks for your help!

I always bought Stihl blades to use when brush cutting. It ain't cheap that is for sure. I did ask my dealer if they sharpened the blades and they did not but there was a local guy that did. The price though was not much better than buying a new blade.

You might be better off money wise to buy a tool to sharpen the blade.

My local outdoor power equip shop sold me "Forester" blades, with which I've been pleased. They are only a simple 4-blade plate type, but they say it is what all the landscape guys use and that they hold up very well.

Do you have a link to those Forester blades?

Yes, what are you cutting? the blade you show in your original post is for cutting brush up to 3 inches, whereas the 3 and 4 blade ones are for lighter use.

They really aren't hard to sharpen once you get the hang of it... unless you hit a rock.:( As someone mentioned earlier have the right tools for the job... When I used one for thinning forestry blocks in another lifetime I carried a spare so that I could sharpen at night if I dinged it badly.

I put a link at the bottom of this to another thread that has some information. I cut and pasted a reply I put in the other thread about Champion carbide tip chisel tooth blades. I have used both the Stihl brand hardened steel (I have a sharpener for them) and I have used the Champion with the carbide tips. Both have their place and use.

Here is a link to the champion website.

Champion Cutter Brushcutter Blades

Excerpt
"Here in the PNW the Forester brand three blade knife is within one dollar of the Stihl. I use the Forester brand on the FS250 and the Stihl on the 450 as I have not found the Forester in the size I need for the 450.
There is a Champion brand carbide tip chisel blade I like versus the Stihl chisel tooth (I hate the sharpening). The carbide doesn't need sharpening but unlike the ads for the Champion if you hit rock you will shed a carbide tip and if you hit a steel post you will shed all carbide tips instantly and the blade is junk. I still use them because the no sharpening outweighs the times I screw up and shed teeth. The cost on those blades is within less than two bucks of Stihls chisel tooth. I have no experience with the chainsaw teeth blade.

Just google "forester brush blade" they are all over Amazon and e-bay. Looks like they make ones with teeth like you are wanting.

I am using my FS450 to cut dogwood and sumac up to 2" but generally 1.5-1.75" in diameter. The 2" stuff I might have to take a second swipe at it.

I was wondering with the Champion carbide tip blades if you do hit an object like a rock and you lose the carbide tips, can they potentially cause great injury to the operator when they come off?
