I stopped by my local Dolmar dealer today to price and look at a new 6400. I haven't been in this dealership in years and now I recall way. The whole place smelled like cat pee and there wasn't but two saws in the whole place niether was a 6400 and they were covered in dust. Junk piled everywhere. But they did price me a 6400 with 20" solid bar and 3/8 chain for $625. A Sthil Ms 391 would run me $550. Dolmar may be a better saw but it's a dealership thing.

Cant blame you on the dealership thing.

And the price (while not terrible) is not great either. Did you say you had a second dolmar dealer there? Maybe give them a look. You should be able to walk out with a 6400 for UNDER $600 OTD:thumbsup: And IMO, it is worth $50 more than the stihl IF you have a decient dealer:thumbsup:

Recently and I mean within the last 3-4 months, I purchased a little Dolmar 420 for limbing and to see how it ran. Its a crackerjack saw. Today, I went back to the shop where I bought this saw and he hasn't a Dolmar in the place. As a matter of fact, he no longer sells them. He now has Husqvarna and he tells me Dolmars just weren't moving off the shelves. As a Husky dealer, he cannot sell anything else or so he states. Seems to me Dolmar needs to hire a good PR company because their product is too good to get hammered because of the distribution dealership network. They need another CEO who is sharp about things like market share and how to acquire more.

Agreed 100%.

They have an excellent product but poor managment/distribution network.

The dealership i spoke of did have a 410 and a 520? on the shelve and they were good looking beefy saw, I spent the day at the National Farm Machinery Show and scoped out a Stihl 391. I also checked out the husky display. I thought they were a bit high and no 570 to look at. The just had a cheap plastic look about them.

I sure like my MS362.
I do not care much for the new style oil and gas cap.
If you put them on wrong, it will leak and make a mess.

But wow, what a great saw....

Check out home depot for the makita 6400 dolmar equivalent. Got one from the rental center there one year ago for under 500. I'll run it against ANY similar sized saw, period. You won't be sorry.

I rented one and must agree it is a great saw. Not sure why they won't put it on the self for sale next to the throw away saws....

Well. You just cought a liein' man there. The shop where I buy my chainsaw supplies sells Husky and Stihl saws. They don't even bother to put them on opposite walls they share shelves and there are no fights.

As for saws I'm a Stihl guy. I bought MS390 about 6 years ago and It keeps me happy. It has the best power in it's weight group and has a decomp. valve. (please don't compare it to pro models) This thing runs like a top.

My dealer sells Husky, Stihl, and Kawasaki. When I went to buy a saw he recommended a Stihl 260. When I went to buy a string trimmer he recommend a Kawasaki. I have been happy with both.
