I have an extra bar/chain for every saw, but mostly for emergencies or to rotate them out to increase longevity. I never swap chains to get fresh cutters unless the rakers also need to be filed, which takes time and patience. For small saws, I can sharpen cutters on a chain faster than I can change it. I guess if I had a 28" bar, then the timing might work out….

Same here. Even my larger saw w/24" bar, I sharpen if dull, not swap out. It only takes ~5 minutes, and I use a granberg so sharpening has to be done on the saw anyway. So even if I had a spare chain, and swapped it out, I would have to eventually put the dull one back on just to sharpen.:confused2:

So I picked up my saw at the shop a few days ago. It didn't need a piston. They replaced or cleaned everything. All new filters, seals sprocket etc. took it up to the property and tried it out on a big Oak tree. It works as well as the day I bought it 14 years ago! All the power is back. I still want a new 441 but can't justify the price now that my 036 is working like its new. Kinda sentimental about old reliable tools.

Congrats on getting it back together. But I still think you should get a 441
