You may need a carb cleaning. Do you put stabil in your gas or empty the tank after using. Carbs clog up really easy.

Now to talk to him about this pos dull chain he said he takes care of himself.

If he dont live too far away, a complementry sharpening and I bet he comes back everytime to sharpen it:thumbsup:

Nothing will make a good saw seem like crap than a poor sharpening from hack

The chain is on it's last sharpening even if I could straighten it up and a total worthless type safety chain that I would used for cutting roots JMO. The cutters remind me of a rounded butter knife edge.

LD1, I got some more chains in today to do just like the one on the saw yesterday. So I'm going to throw his on the grinder while I am straightening up chains. Just couldnt stand it going back like that.

:cool:Way to check for spark is have the dorky neighbor or Ex mother in law hold onto plug wire and give it a few yanks.. Depending on how loud they scream or how far they jump will be a good indication.. The above questions from LD1 are the right track. Sounds more like flooding from carb maybe. You could try starting it in half choke postion after it has sat for a bit to dry out the plug. Does that have compression release on it? How clean is your air filter? You could try starting it without the air filter and see if it makes much difference.

I must confess, I did this once. BUT IT WASN'T MY FAULT. Young guy with a snow machine that wouldn't start decided he would hold the ignition wire close to the spark plug to observe if a spark jumped to the plug. He asked me to pull the starter rope. ookk. Talk about a monkey jumping around. He came right off his heels. I might have felt a little bad but it had to wait till I stopped laughing. Don't think he ever did that again.

Alright, I've been puttzing around with this thing for two days. I gave up. New Farm Boss Stihl - $380.
Thing is, $100 into a carb rebuild and I'm left with a saw worth $100. It has to be 10+ years old. Not much of a market out there for beat up old saws. I think the best use would be to simply get it to work so it could be a backup saw to rescue my good saw in the event I should run into that situation when felling a tree and said tree leans the wrong way and makes your saw one with tree. Dam I hate that. An axe has been my only rescue in the past.
Thanks for tips and tricks guys.

:confused2::laughing::laughing: Thanks for the laugh don't ask me how I know that that high voltage meant for a spark plug feels.......
Heck if you were close retiredmgn I would work on it for you. New toys are always nice though..

retiredmgn, when you say farm boss on the one getting fixed are you referring to the newer ones like 029 290 or the older ones 028 041 etc?

029. The dealer pointed out to me today current model number is 290.
Move the zero around, still a nice saw. Came home and cut up 1/4 cord and enjoyed every minute.
It does come down to a 'new toy'.
