I think it depends on the variety of blackberry. The ones they have in the OP's area are the Himalayan. I poked around on the Internet and those canes can grow 40' in a single year and engulf medium sized trees and even sheds. The ones I saw were not something you could easily brush hog with a SCUT, they would tower over you.
I will drown those mothers in industrial strength Crossbow then bash them repeatedly with the FEL until they get the message.
