Yanmar AF120, Kubota GR2120
Hi folks,

Further to my previous post on the subject, I'm still trying to track down some turf rims + tyres for my AF120. Seems the wheel sizes are a bit odd, 6.00-12 front and 8.3-22 rear.

I've had a look and it seems the YM1610 (2wd) has similar sized tyres - 4.00-12 / 8.3-22. I can see that Hoye sell a turf wheel kit for that machine, I'm wondering if the stud pattern/spacing and hub size is the same as mine.

If anyone has one and could let me know the hub diameter and stud spacing that would be amazing - really struggling to find these rims, and my marriage depends on me not wrecking the lawn every time I drive over it! :D

Thanks in advance

G

I don't have an AF120 wheel here to measure but if you wanted to get me the measurements of your wheels I will be happy to see if any of the other Yanmars match up.

Thanks Aaron, that would be really helpful. I've already measured everything, so the sizes are as follows:

Front
Current ag tyre size 6.00-12
Hub diameter 75mm
Distance between bolts 120mm
Bolt hole diameter 10mm

Rear
Current ag tyre size 8.3-22
Hub diameter 85mm
Distance between bolts 120mm
Bolt hole diameter 14mm

If you need any other dimensions please shout.

I am not able to find anything, at least that we have ever built, that uses that bolt pattern. I would probably look into getting a local laser/waterjet place to cut some centers out for you and have them welded into some wheels.

Aaron, You are so right.

Back in 2003-ish time, a person needed different tires on their Yanmar. I have little info pulled off of the WayBackMachine.
From what he did, he found John Deere rims that work with the turf tires.

Here is his blog on the task. But, some pix were missing. - - - >

(Missing pix)

Here are the new rear tires Goodyear 36X13.5X15 Terra Turf tires mounted on JD rims. I have two pieces of 7.5
inch diameter stock on order so I can machine some adapters on the milling machine as the bolt pattern is 6X6 on
the rims and 6X5.5 on the rear hubs.

(Missing pix)

Here is a view showing the difference between the stock tires and the new ones. There is actually only about 1 inch
difference in diameter.

(Missing pix)

Another comparison view. The overall width of the new tires is 15 inches. Bought the tires (brand new) and
mounted on nicely repainted rims off e-bay for 272.00 total including shipping!

Here are the adapters prior to being tapped for 1/2-20 bolts. They were made from 7.5 inch diameter 6061-T6
aluminum that was cut to 1 1/2 inches thick. I got the stock from Speedy Metals. Although I have a milling
I don't have a rotary table so the 4" diameter center cutout would have taken several hours of work. I called a
local machine shop and they cut the center out and faced the pieces for 20.00 total. The 6 inch pattern for the
JD rims is tapped on one side and the 5.5 inch pattern is tapped on the other. I'll show you why next.

I found the bolts went through the existing holes from the rear perfectly saving me the trouble of having to mill out
12 holes to recess the bolts if I had to use the stock Yanmar bolts.

Here a shot after I torqued the plate down. I used Noalox anti-sieze on all the hardware prior to screwing the
bolts in.

One side done now onto the other.

Here is a shot after I got the second tire on. I still have the same clearance as before.

yanmar6.jpg

Here is another side view of the new tires. Still debating whether I'm going to paint the rears white or the front
rims JD yellow. All in all it cost about 85.00 to make the adapters and about 375.00 for the whole project. Not
bad considering what I got for my money.

Since it is winter and time to tinker in the garage I am also adding a full set of gauges instead of the idiot lights.

(Missing pix)

Here are the 1 inch fender spacers I cut from aluminum stock and drilled out It is amazing what 2 inches of clearance
does for you. It allows you to put a real seat on the tractor. Much more comfort when your cutting 3 acres.

All ready to get some work done!

Hope that gives you some ideas of what you can do fairly easily.

This is from the OPS manual.

It's slightly over the limit to upload here, but can be pulled from either the Yanmar.jp site with login or on main@yanmar-tractor-owners.groups.io | Home

Understood, thanks for looking. I guess the other option is to get some adapters made up, of say 20mm plate, with the correct bolt pattern for the existing hubs and more tapped holes for the bolt pattern on new rims. It would increase the track of the machine but I don't see that being a problem. Any reason you can think I shouldn't do that?

The other option is I just abandon ag tyres and put turf tyres on the existing rims. I can get those in the EU for about $1000.

@bmaverick sorry didn't see your post! This is exactly the sort of thing I was thinking of.

I will review that info. Thanks for sharing!

Just done a quick search and these look like they could work John Deere 252 Turf Tyres & Rims | eBay

From my quick calcs I think the rolling circumference ratio is within 2% of the original. Any thoughts?
