Thanks everyone for your help. I have decided to pull the engine and to look at the rear main bearing. To me, its the only thing I have left to check. I know I have an open passage from cam to top of engine. I know I have oil pressure to mains. Once I have it off I am going to get the machine shop guy to stop by and take a look. Hopefully, between him and I we can get it figured out. Since I have gotten to know this engine pretty well it should not take long to put back together.

That sounds like a sound plan. While you have it broken you might take a look at seals to see if they need replacing too. Good hunting. -kid

I'm assuming this is a startup after a rebuild. Another poster talks about 1/4 NPT plugs at each end of the main oil gallery. Were these removed and replaced during rebuild? It is possible one plug is in too far, or is a too-long replacement, and blocking or partially restricting oil flow to the top end?

Can you tell me where those plugs are located? The machine shop guy said maybe he took them out and did not replace one. He even gave me one but I have yet to see where it may go. Any help is appreciated.

In AGO books Cylinder head and valves has Item 6 half inch plug in head. Is this yours? Also item 5, a 1/8 inch plug

I have viewed those plugs and they are in place. I was under the impression that they were elsewhere but did not know where.

Yes Mike, I put the rear main bearing in reverse. All is solved and up and running.
