Yes the FX is a whole different world,, some for the good and some for the bad. I did some learning for the stock market, but never made a trade,, I found FX and the rest is history,, It's pretty necessary to know everything as to how things work. Some of the terms for the types of accounts are not necessary where you are paper trading,, they don't have mini's or standard accounts,, basically these accounts force you to buy or sell a minimum size, a mini account transaction size minimum 10k units,, a standard account 100k units, the size of the units bought or sold would determine the pip value,, lets just take Eur/Usd just as an example,,, 10k units would have a $1/pip value,,, 100k units would be $10/ pip,, where you are at, you can make a trade of any size, no minimum lot size. The bigger problem with these mini accounts, although they will allow a low initial deposit( some places $250) they are not in the starting traders best interest,,, the pip value is to high for the amount of capital for a beginning trader, in my opinion. Another difference with the account types,, some market makers will not pay interest on the balance of a mini, but they will on a standard,,, a standard can be opened with as little as $2500 but once again that is pretty small capital for trading $10 a pip, in my opinion. A pip is an increment of value,,, lets say we took a 10k unit trade long on Aud/Jpy at a price of 102.25,, we closed that trade at 103.75,, that would be 150 pips, each pip would have a dollar value of $1, so we made $150 on the trade,, a 100k trade would have made $1500,,, and while we are at it when the account grows up a 1m trade would have made $15k and a 10m trade, $150k,, ( the actual value for this pair is a little less than the above,, I'm being lazy). How long did a move of this size take??? Less than a day! And of course the flip side,, you bought at 103.75 and it sets at 102.25, you would be down 150 pips, loss values would be relative to the units held and of course it would be negative. ouch!!!!!

yep, sounds about right for/from what I've been reading. I'm going to be out of commission in 2 days getting my back done finally after like 15 years. Reason I got into trading was because I couldn't WORK anymore now that I'm getting that fixed, I may have 2 months of good day trading left in me until I'll be OK to go back to full time working. which means I'll be trading after hrs so maybe then I'll be forced into the foex due to the trading limitations and fact I can't get in/out as fast as I like to ... I'm probably going to sell back my stocks at market tomorrow after they are on up slide... I'm down ~400 today cause I wasn't here to watch/stop limit anything... spent hole day in doc office.

I think that stocks are easier to under stand for sure due to the way Forex has been setup (though it was described above nicely by JS for anyone reading) I will be in there just watch & see. have to get global info to see what is going on in world prior to making alot/high value buys though forsure.

I had a similar situation, and would get real bored in front of the machine all day,,, it's ok if I don't have or want to do anything, but I have moved my trading timeframes out and use smaller position sizes for the summer,,I just check on things a couple times a day/night and do what ever I want to do in between. Once you get a few years under your belt you just know when and when not, so you spend less time at it and with the longer timeframes I'm not chasing every "burp" in the price. When it gets cold out I'll be back at the screen alittle more,,,maybe.

hi all:

I'm back from operation. was put in last Tuesday and out afternoon Monday (today.) Operation wasn't a big success... They got rid of the leg pain & traded it for LOTS of back pain (Temporary I hope) and the legs are pain free, as in feeling absolutely nothing. they are working moving but I have no sensations of touch or impact (smashed my foot with walker good and wall already, needed to have it x-rayed as swelling and bruising!? :( nothing broken though......

When I got back some of the auto sales & buys went through in stock market and others dropped some but still going above my investment by a good amount.

I'm going to do some more stock looking tonight, my stuff dropped yesterday some but are back up today... wasn't looking good for a while while I was laid up away from PC, the TV didn't sound good for my stocks, and they dropped some. I'm going to set up some auto sell today and get moving.

Hi All:

just wanted to remind everyone or anyone thinking about getting into the stock market, it is very good time to buy GM is at it's low in forever. while it is hurting on sales the company is one of top going same with Ford also at or near it's multi decade year low. reason I say to buy is Americans are changing way we think & travel and use our cars. in no time the small car market is going to get moving better for both companies also they announced today that they are looking into a joint venture for R&D of new engines/drive line which is something VERY new!

even if you only want to make a few bucks buying at it's lowest point ever and selling a week or two later when price goes up 3~4 bucks a share is a good way to use any $ that is setting in a bank that is defiantly not making you money on interest. also leaving money in banks (especially if you have over 100G in same bank) is not wise with cheap stocks prices all around.

be aware that I mentioned 2 stocks while there are 100's of stocks in similar situations energy stocks are UP but can be good investment just the same. any company you look to buy be sure to check out as much INFO as you can. like any investing it has risks. Mine is UP in general but I have a few losers going that once I can break even I'll get rid of them...

For those that have been keeping an eye on this topic please be advised that there is a difference between trading and investing. Financial advice is my livelyhood and without being to anecdotal I can say that "things are cheap for a reason" when you look at companies like GM. In addition though things look "cheap" right now an old expression fits very well into the current market "markets can be irrational for alot longer than you have money"
