Good luck. It's not a perfect fix.. but as long as the animals drink.. it will get yo by till you figure out the real problem.
I leave the ground wire in mine full time 'just in case' my tank de-icer ever does develop a leak.. ( and yes.. occasionally Florida does need a de-icer. Just a couple weeks ago a basin that had some water in it in the cow pasture managed to make 1.5" of ice on the top of the water! )
