I could not get the link to open, but I have been very concerned about this possibility. So far, no issues.

My question is how could 21 head of cattle be missing & the owner doesn't notice it until 2-1/2 months later.

If you have a few hundred or thousand head spread over 15-20,000 acres you can see why they could go unnoticed till you round them up.

In that case I could see how that you wouldn't miss 21 head but if you had that many cattle you also couldn't say they were stolen.

It would be easy to miss a cow that is down or died during the winter on couple hundred acres much less thousands.

Downers can be located by watching the Buzzards and Vultures. Riding or driving the range is not that difficult to spot an animal in trouble or down. Just getting them to stand still and count can be a hassle. We used to just take a picture of the herd a count them for audits rather than try and round them up.

I have to agree. Growing up on a large western ranch we would have known 21 head were missing long before 2.5 months. There are ways - I will bet he will keep much closer track from now on.

According to the the Tennessee dept. of agriculture the farms are smaller on the eastern side of the State. And if he "walked" the fences, it could not be that large. Sounds like an absentee farmer.

Edit. I google satellite viewed Beechgrove Rd in Rogersville, TN. Those farms are small.

If the terrain there is like here, it is easier then one would think to not notice 20 missing out of a small 30 acre plot.

You all raise some good points. Here is what I don't understand, During the timeframe they supposedly went missing someone would've had to be feeding them. Two out of a heard you might not miss unless you count them every day. But you would be able to notice 21 missing out of a very large herd.

I don't know how many cows a person cold have on 30 acres and not miss 21 of them for months. :D. I still say absentee farmer. Cows not fed, maybe PETA came and got them.
