Several years ago I had a night hunter visiting my farm, I called game wardens and they talked about a groundhog camera they had they buried in the ground and a very small camera the size of lipstick they would conceal. They are commonly used by drug enforcement watching pot growers... I now have about a dozen cell cameras I run year round since I live 70 miles away from my farm. I use higher end Spypoint Link Dark cams. You get 100 free pics a month on each cam. I only buy more pictures during deer season when I set up feeders when I can get thousands of pics a month, can get unlimited pics for $15 per month or $10 per month yearly. I have all my cams in lock boxes with circle locks and locking cables. I also put some Cams 10-12 high on a tree, I have cams set to send a pic immediately to my phone.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going with this. Sir, you may be a genius.

I'm not willing to concede my property to others. And I now carry every day at the ranch. Sort of sad about that but I'll also be unloading a few magazines into the ground in the general direction of my new neighbor - my timely suspect - for their consideration. PISSED.

How do you keep from paying for picture of the grass being blown by the wind? Don't get me wrong. I like the idea. But on my cameras there are always a lot of pictures of birds flying by, limbs and grass being stirred by wind, etc.

There are a few different technologies for motion detection. Some are image-based. My Lorex DVR has image-based motion detection and it flags everything; wind blown leaves, sudden shadow from clouds, rain, spiders at night, etc.

My Arlo cameras have a PIR (passive infrared (heat)) sensor. They only trigger when something with body heat gets in front of them. Great for reducing false positives, but they don't capture everything i wished they did. They're tuned to trigger on the body heat/mass of a human. They'll only trigger on something smaller like a racoon if the critter gets right in front of it.

I would assume that a trail cam that expensive would contain the PIR sensor, maybe adjustable for the type/size/distance of game desired, and maybe also combined with another one or more technologies to eliminate false positives while reducing missed shots.

If you decide to look at a cellular based camera you may want to look at a security based cellular camera (you can use them for trail cams also). I'm not directly associated with them but... full discloser... our company is a dealer for Vosker & we have had very positive results & feedback on them. I personally have been testing 3 of them (along with a couple others in the company testing their own) for the past 4+ month with very good results.

A couple feature not on a standard game cellular cam:
- Solar option - the V200 has a solar panel for charging & has a battery back-up for when solar power is low. I've been running mine for just over 3 month without direct sunlight (maybe 60%) still fully charged.
- Camera includes Sim Card (no additional activation on a separate cellular plan) & includes an SD memory card
- The price of the camera includes 100 free images every month (yes zero charge) via their the app. Subscriptions required for some features & additional picture (over 100) notifications.
- My personal concern was delay time to receive an image from when it was taken... My personal experience has been in about 1 min (usually less)... that is from when the unit detects motion, takes the picture, cellularly uploads it & then delivers it via the app. (of course both the camera & you have to be on a network for it to work that fast. (not the same network... just a network)
- System has AI abilities with subscriptions - can be programmed to only detect people or vehicles (In my opinion this has been about 80-85% accurate... not full-proof)
- If the unit is Stolen the camera can labeled as so in the APP & the next time it is scheduled to report in it will transmit its locating via the internal Sim via GPS. It will do so even if no motion is detected as long as it has battery power.
- Multi-shot & Pic / Video capture capability
- Camera resolution HD 1920ラ1080 on SD Card and 600ラ338 on Mobile App

It is basically a trail cam with security features... (really a security cam with trail cam features) just an option for you to look at. We were unsure how it would accepted by our clients.. but we have sold units to construction (site) companies, horse property owners, camp owners, farmers, private home owners, remote camp / landowners.. etc. (it has been better received then we thought). Just remember it needs cellular signal (mine is running on only 2 bars with limited solar / 60%)...

If you would like to check them out: (again full disclosure, we are dealers for Vosker... but it is not why I'm posting this... if you decide to purchase one... please find / locate a local dealer [we are not an online retailer].... I am posting this because I like the product thus far (I'm in systems designs & programing)... (If you are interested & can not find a local dealer please let me know I will find you one (via Vosker).

dlctcg pretty much explains Spypoint cams as that is who makes Vosker cams. There are a lot of different settings you can control from the app.
You can control intensity of the flash, detection intensity, 1-6 pics each detection. However if you set it to take a lot of pics and send them instantly , you need an exterior 12 volt battery and solar charger as it will eat up aa batteries in a hurry. I run 2 cams on a food plot with this setup and battery stays charged 100% for 4 month long deer season. I use a Sandisk 32g class 10 U3 sd card. It will not send video but will save it to the card. When you reach 100 free pics per month it keeps taking pics and saves to card. I buy unlimited pics per month during deer season at $15 per month.
