Yes interesting. Anyone seen similar tech for heavy equipment in the US? I know Bobcat has some thing proprietary. What about a generic solution that can be used on all machines. Lowjack for tractors!

both my skidsteer and excavator are setup to transmit a signal to Bobcat when fired up and during operation, it sends codes for errors or warnings, it also plots its movement via GPS, my dealer will tell me of any issues, it had low battery a couple weeks ago, they called me to let me know, sure enough it needed a boost to start, no doubt they could locate it if it got stolen

Have it in our cars, what's better is that it is not expensive anymore, under $150 plus a sim card.

There is a very old episode of COPS, late 80s or early 90s, set in Philadelphia as I recall. They are out tracking a LoJack hit on an 'air compressor'. One of the officers remarks wondering why there would be a LoJack unit on an air compressor. When they find it and open the shed door, it's a large trailer mounted construction site type Ingersoll Rand compressor.

I always wondered how the process worked. If the tracker "thought" the equipment was in a locked van, would the police have reasonable grounds for a search? Especially if a request for search was denied.

ALL the Rental Co. use them here in Charleston..
I guess theres a BIG PROBLEM of equipment getting stolen after its rented.??
& it also has the feature of shutting it down if the rental payment isn't made or IF they don't return it "on time"..
I had the misfortune of getting 1st hand knowledge of that system..
A customer came in & wanted "HIS" compressor worked on.. wouldn't start. I saw it had "X" rental co. stickers painted over..
I had to call them for something.?? & come to find out it WAS stolen & they have been tracking it..
Another time, it was a no start problem again.. & came to find out the guy didn't pay on the rental & the rental co. turned it "OFF"..

I don稚 know him but a local guy was in a bar one night and another patron had a nice trailer mounted welding machine / generator for sale for relatively cheap. He had a reasonable explanation, got laid off and needed to make his house payment or something similar. The local guy bought the machine.

It took several months but the sheriff came to his door. The machine had been stolen but had a hidden tracking device. Embarrassing for the buyer since he was known as an honest man. End result was the machine was returned to the rental company that was the rightful owner and the buyer was out what he paid for it. He really should have known better, buying an expensive machine for cheap from a guy in a bar??
