Stoopid parking brake question

Yeah, a noob... So I try to do "the right thing" and put the parking brake on at various times when i get off the tractor. I have a very steep hilly wooded area I am working in, so it makes sense to me at times to do this. Now last week I managed to forget to pop the brake off 2 times when I got back on. The tractor seemed to complain a bit more from the load, but yet it still moved OK. I'm new to this - I could hear something was not quite right but couldn't figure out why right away. I'm hoping my brain kicks-in so I don't do this anymore but...

So is my brake out of adjustment that it still lets me drive it with the brake on, or is the tractor just strong enough that no parking brake will matter in the end once you step on the go-pedal? In all my cars, if I try to move with the parking brake on, it is MORE THAN obvious, but not with the 3130.

Any yeah, I'll try to stop doing that...:ashamed:

Like me, you wore a little bit of the brake pad off unnecessarily. If you didn't notice that the parking brake was left on until they started stinking and smoke began to reduce visibility then you might want to do an inspection. Otherwise, if the brakes stop the tractor as they did before and the parking brake can hold it in place on a hill it'll probably be alright.

Someone here at TBN kept forgetting as well and installed indicator lights on the dash to help remind them. Do a search or maybe someone will post the link to the tread.

Wet brakes = no stink or smoke...he'll be fine.

Unfortunately, many, if not most, of us have done the same thing. So far, I don't recall hearing from anyone who has done it enough to damage anything.:laughing:

I have done this on tractors and my Rhino, so far no damage. Fortunately my BX2660 as opposed to my BX2200 won't move with the brake engaged. My L5030 has a warning light and my Case has a warning light and alarm or I would keep doing it.

An easy mistake to make. Indicator light or buzzer would be nice. First thing I do when I climb aboard tractor is push on brake pedals (to release e brake). I do this religiously and is now a habit so I don't drive with the e brake on.

Exactly. Get in the habit of hitting the brake everytime you get on the tractor.
I got in the habit of hitting the brake pedal from my truck. The truck will not shift out of park unless the brake is on.

As others said most of us done it one time or another..just cleaning brakes but least your using your breaks.

I need to get in that habit. The real sad thing is that there is a light on the "Intellipanel" but in daylight you can't see a darn thing on it.They really needed to either put a deep shroud around the panel or put some kleig lights in for the indicators so they stand out.

I figured I didn't hurt anything, mostly wanting to know if this is a sign I need some brake adjustment to tighten it up, as I couldn't find anything in the owners manual.

Not on my BX23 ya don't.
It has to be in netural to start it .
If you hit the brake and then shift to netural and are on a slope you are going for a wild ride.
