I have a post driver that is leaking pretty bad. Not bad enough I refuse to use it but bad enough I am concerned I am losing maybe 1/2 -3/4 a gallon with every 5 hrs of use.

I am wondering about rebuilding the cylinder. Where would one get parts especially when I am not even sure what it is. Would it be easier to just get a new cylinder? It would be cheaper to get a seal I would think if I could find it.

Any ideas where to start? Where do you measure to determine the size at the largest diameter or at the piston?

Who makes the post driver?

If you don't know how to measure the groove width depth, bore, etc, take it to someone that does know how.

You could take the cylinder to a hydraulic shop and they might be able to set you up with a seal kit for it. Seals are usually pretty cheap compared to a new cylinder. But if you have them do the rebuild. Then you might be able to get a new cylinder cheaper or for about the same price.

Check out surpluscenter.com for some cylinders.

It looks like a Prince "Royal Line" cylinder...... http://www.princehyd.com/Portals/0/products/cylinders/RoyalLinePartsBook.pdf

If the snap ring comes out of the bore in the gland then it will be easy to rebuild.........:confused2:....but the rod in your pix looked like it could be pitted (rust under the chrome plating).....if so then I'd be sizing it up for a new cyl replacement

if the rod looks like new and the snap ring comes out then it should be worth the trouble to reseal/rebuild.....easy parts to obtain from any hyd repair shop

No problem. Wish you luck in getting it fixed.
