I was pleasantly suprised to find my 14' chains fit into a coffee can (all but the ends.) I used heavy bailing wire to tie the cans onto my box scraper, slip the chain ends onto the frame and off I go.
I always carry two chains on the tractor because my main need is brush and limb clearing. Befor I just wound the chains around the box scraper frame and the chains would vibrate loose, get hung up on brush and were tangled and hard to get untangled. Now I can load and unload chains in 10 seconds. I need to punch a few holes to drain rain from the bottoms.
I have seen several methods to store chains, but none simpler then this.

Good Afternoon Knotbored,
Wow that sounds like a great idea !

I wouldnt think that my chains that go on my Massey would even fit in a coffee can. My rear tires are 13.6 x 24", but that would be a good idea if they would.

What size rears are on your Kubota, just curious on the size ?

Opps just reread your post, I see your talkin about regular chains, not tire chains, sorry about that !

I keep my pulling chain wrapped around my counter weight, since thats what we are talking about !

I think he ment drag chains not tire chains....but still a good idea for tire chains.:D

A piece of 4" ABS pipe with a cap mounted to the loader bracket is what I store a couple of chains in --- but I believe a large coffee can will now be used for some of the short "sling" pieces I have;)

The only thing I put into a coffee can is the stuff I want rust on.

I don't usually carry chains on the tractor except for job specific useage. However, to keep them in an orderly fashion, I put them in a five gallon bucket with the hooks hung on the rim.

I paint the hooks with odds and ends of almost empty spray paint cans to ID them.

I use a 5 Gallon bucket to store my 4 tie down chains. Chains go in and hooks hang on the bucket edge. I tried more than 4 chains in the bucket but it gets too heavy to lift.

I don't know whether everyone understood that or not, but you're sure right.:D Even with drain holes in the bottom of the can, it seems that anything you store there WILL rust.:D

The part I understand is that if 14' of chain fits in a coffee can, it's either small chain or coffee comes in larger cans there than here.

Must be an older can sold before the manufacturers started reducing the size rather than raise the price, lol!
