Store implements inside or outside

/ Store implements inside or outside #21
I always store my tractors and implements inside. It is to painful for me to watch the paint fade and steel rust in the harsh Michigan weather.
Last winter I loaded most of my attachments onto my trailer and backed the whole shootin match in so the trailer would stay nice and pretty also.

I storey my fertalizer spreader inside.. but virtually everything else sets outside, unless it is tractor mounted.. all the tractors set inside. My new 10' rotary mower is 'mostly' covered by a tube/tarp structure.

I store my implements inside..with the exception of the back blade. Even that stays in the garage most of the Winter since it's rigged to the tractor.
The rotary cutter stays in an outbuilding, the finishing mower, tractor and loader stay in the garage.
Now I do leave these outside for up to a week, occasionally...but I'd guess 85% of the time (when not in use), they're inside. Even when the cutter is outside, if it's not rigged to the tractor, I put wooden blocks under the front end to keep it off the ground.

But a little rust isn't going to panic me...

If I were planning a place, I would definitely make accomodations for the equipment. Definitely the tractor/loader, then for the implements.

I have a
30 x 52 4 stall garage
22 x 76 6 stall pole building.
20 x 24 2 stall enclosed car port.

This gives me a total of 12 stalls for storage.

I don't have any where near 40 bucks a square foot in any of these 3 buildings.
It's a good thing too as there is no way I could have afforded $148,480 for the 3712 square feet these 3 buildings contain.

I'm fortunate enough to now have a 30 X 42' garage, but for the first 3 years that I had the tractor (FEL, PHD, Brush Cutter, Box Blade, Rake, Chipper/Shredder), it stayed under a canopy of trees, and the implements just off the ground on cinder blocks. Yes, there is some rust, but not on the tractor, and not much in general. Stuff stays out in the weather on many farms. The best reason, for me, to bring them all inside was that I could build dollies (2X6" with bearing based wheels) for each implement. Now, instead of lots of colorful language, a crow bar, a hammer and such, I can roll the implements right up to the 3 pt hitch, no sweat, and except for the darn (very heavy, balky) drive shaft and bearing based fixation device on my 72" Woods brush cutter, it's usually very easy. Even the FEL mates with the tractor harness - could take 15 minutes to do previously, and now is 5 minutes or less.
So, if "outside" is all you've got, fine - you're no different than most farmers, and many TBNers. If inside, count your blessings.
