Storing and toting ratchet straps

metal tool box giving you problems? never had one with mine.

If you do enough miles in all kinds of weather, metal boxes get rusty and/or will have moisture in them. You could periodically clean them and paint them I suppose. Having used straps for long periods of time and lots of miles, I just think they stay looking better in a container.

Better looking straps equates less scrutinizing.

Depends on your usage I guess as well. Like when I haul hay, I use plenty of straps. I cannot throw them over anymore but I can carry a crate of straps up a ladder or stage it so I can stand on the load of hay and unroll them where they need to be.

Mommy sewed me up some pouches made out of old jean legs. Real simple, free and it keeps the straps from unraveling. Then the straps get thrown where ever I need them at the moment and usually stored in the garage in off days.

I agree. Aluminum is better. Box placement makes a difference too. You will get a lot more vibration with underbed mounted boxes then with boxes mounted on top of a bed. Underbed also gets blasted with more water during bad weather.

I roll mine up & 'tie' them with "ball bungees". In the old pickup, I stored them in an aluminum side rail box. Now I have them in a plastic storage box in the bed of the pickup (locked under hard-fold tonneau cover). Also have a plastic storage box full for show season,a 16' trailer load of garden tractors & attachments take several straps! ~~ grnspot

Small straps I wrap with electrical tape. Large straps i wrap with duct tape if I am not using them for a while, otherwise I just roll them up. The tape is cheaper and faster than trying to untangle them.

I roll my straps and keep them in a milk crate along with a bottle of Power Service, a plastic 8oz. measuring cup in a zip-lock bag (for the Power Service) and a quart of transmission fluid. The crate is bungeed to a tie-down right behind the driver's side fender to keep it from skidding and sliding around, so I can always reach it immediately. I also have several smaller bungees stretched around the outside of the crate for easy picking.

I used to keep my Power Service, funnel, and measuring cup in one of those open rectangular plastic totes with the handle down the middle. That PS gets pretty nasty when you spill it which invarably happens. Makes the tool box smell pretty nasty too.
