Storing large volume of diesel

I got a 300 gallon tank full of diesel for my tractor that still hasn't been delivered. My question is there a single product I can dump in it to keep it fresh and free of algae, geling and any other problems. If so how much should I use and where can I get it.

I buy that much twice a year. All I ever use is PowerService.

I noticed you're in Texas. If you buy your fuel from Southern States Cooperative fuel service you won't have to add anything. That is for their off road fuel. In my area they have the best fuel on the market. Local JD dealer will tell you right up front when you buy a tractor to use Southern States fuel.

I'll second the PowerService. Sometimes I'll empty my 300 gallon tank 3 or 4 times a year, and sometimes only once or twice. I always just add one bottle of the PowerService diesel addative I buy at my local Rural King. I've never had any problem in years of doing so. Apparently my fuel must be pretty clean from the Co-Op where I have it delivered. I generally have my fuel filters last several years before they need to be changed and I never get any sediment in my viewable bowls.

Ha! I after reading the posts on the leach fields on septic tanks, I had to make sure that I spelled bowl right. Think about it... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I agree with the other recommendations for Power Service. The cost of a jug of the chemical is good insurance against problems developing with your fuel.

Add a gallon to every 300 gallons of fuel. If you are going to just have the fuel for a short period of time, 3 months or less, then it probably isn't necessary. If you are going to have the fuel for longer than 3-6 months or longer sitting you need something. Nobody makes that good of fuel.

My fuel is 2 years old and no problems. Both the furnace and the tractor start every time and run flawlessly. I put power service in my tank when adding fuel. It is more for the Cetane boost and the anti gel qualities than anything else. Possibly the fuel in the blue states is better quality than the fuel in the red states? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

easiest way is to get Big Bud and work him all day. That'll keep your tank fresh with no problems.

Thanks all I'll go into Wally World and see if they carry the Power Service before I posed the question I had looked in San Antonio but they didn't sell it in town so far as I could find.

Bottom shelf in the oil isle...... middle of the shelf.... look for a white bottle with a silver bottle right next to it. The white bottle is the regular and the silver bottle claims to do everything that the white bottle does, plus raise the Cetane level 6 points. Slight difference in price.
