A bucket trap is a 5 gallon bucket with antifreeze in to about 6 inches from the bottom . place a board or some other means for the mice to climb on then suspend bait from a string over the fluid. Use one at camp when we close up for the winter and catch lots of mice. Make sure no animals or kids would have access to it. Ours sits in the middle of the living room to keep the critters out of the furniture in the locket cabin.

Here is a slight variation that is much safer than using antifreeze. Put a few inches of water in the 5 gal bucket. Throw some dry dog food or bird seed in the water. I lean a piece of plywood against the bucket for a ramp, but I think it would work without it.

The bucke trap with water in it works until 32 degrees that is why i use antifreeze or use rv antifreeze if you think some one will drink it

I'm sure Rob (3rrl) will loan you some snakes that will take care of the mouse problem you would only need one or two. and you dont have to empry the trap then!

Ok, thought it might be something like you described, but what's the killing agent, the antifreeze, drowning? I know non-RV stuff is toxic, but if your suggesting the RV stuff, then I'm guessing they fall in and drown. I've seen this by pure accident when I left some water in a 5 gal pail in my garage. Don't recall what else was in there to cause the mouse to fall in.

If she sets for any length of time.. I'd rub down the exposed rods with hyd oil.. or grease.. or spray silicon.. leaving them exposed during most of it's life ( storage ) like that is inviting corosion and damage. I like to retract as many cyls as possible.. and grease the exposed ones if they set for more than a few days to a week...

Variation of bucket trap -
5 gallon bucket - fill with cats to 6" from rim, place in garage = no mice!

Without spending a lot of money you open up the back wall of your shed at the bottom large enough for your bucket to go through, and build a little "dog house" on the outside to close it in. That way everything would be under cover and the bucket would be resting on the ground.

Thank you VERY much for this idea. I have a long narrow tractor shed, with the doors on the long side. My new B2620 doesn't fit inside with the bush hog on the the back. I was considering making a new door at one end of the shed and then running the tractor in lengthwise, but this would be much, much easer.
