At the very least we can also expect some sort of new fees or taxes on ALL (private, retail) firearm. ammo, accessories etc...to fund any new system of tracking and background registries etc...

And we are headed down that road I fear. With "universal background checks". Think it thru. The whole idea of "universal background checks is so that we can stop person to person transfers of firearms. All transfers to go thru a FFL. How will that be enforced? The only way to enforce it would be if every firearm in the land was registered. ALL, no matter how old, no matter who's drawer it is in.

That’ll never happen, too many firearms are stolen, everyday.

If you vote for any Democrat.......you are voting for eventual gun confiscation !

It is that simple!!

Never say never...
If legislation is passed and enacted that restricts private gun sales...After a date of record all newly sold firearms will be required to have a paper trail...
I also if said legislation is passed...there will also be retroactive accounting of all guns previously bought where a background check was performed...(i.e., new purchases from retailers etc...dating back as far as background checks permit...

If more laws are passed, and they do not enforce laws already on the books, all it will be is that proverbial slippery slope until we lose our second amendment rights

Your country and mine could have the majority of gun violence mopped up quickly, if it were not for various hot potatoe, politically suicidal, courses of action that would have to be taken. In fact, I think they like the violence including the odd spree shootings to justify their intentions of disarming the populace.

They can’t track private gun sales of stolen guns. All the tracking would do is keep the honest person on a paper trail. How many guns are already in the US that aren’t registered or got passed down from grandpa? I’d venture to guess 1 million plus.

I just read where there is an average of 100,000 unlicensed driver convictions a year. Just because there are laws doesn’t mean people obey them.

If similar legislation to what I described above is passed...
when you sign the form for a new gun purchase either from an individual through a FFL holder or a retail vendor...(including any past sales/background check records they have)...you will be stating that you agree to inform the powers that be that you no longer own/posses a particular gun either by sale or theft (along with a sales number and or a police report #)...

It's NOT about how effective any given (new) law is...and it's NOT about laws that have already been passed and have failed to prevent some innocent deaths...It is about enacting a system that can fully filter out the kooks...

No they can't do anything about any firearms they have no previous record of no matter how many times it has changed hands...
I would wager any new sales restriction legislation will have some reporting clauses where it a "citizen's duty" to report the ownership of a particular type of firearm (aka assault rifle and possibly lg cap. pistol mags etc...)
There is nothing they can really do about unreported ownership...BUT...

...In most states...if 911 is ever called from a residence...the local police have the right to search every square foot of a home (if they are not satisfied with the encounter of the call)...it would not take much of a stretch for them to amend those search rights to include confiscating any unreported firearms...it would be a scare tactic to get people to report ownership...

never say never...!

BTW...laws are just guidelines for honest people...!

Incidentally, there are a lot of older guns out there that do not have serial numbers; in fact, it was not required until the GCA of 1968. It's going to be difficult to register and track these guns in any case. My old Remington that I had growing up, was manufactured before WWII, had no serial number, and was purchased by my Dad from the original owner in 1942. I'm sure there are a lot more out there like that.

IMO...

Realistically it is hard to imagine exactly what type of legislation they may be able to get passed...the next national election will be telling...

There is little doubt that they will amend the background requirements which will eliminate unrecorded private sales of "certain firearms" and accessories etc...creating a complete firearm registry is logistically not realistic...

Something they can do is add restrictions to certain ammo purchases...i.e., if a person is buying particular ammunition that fits a particular (i.e., cal etc.) description you could possibly be required to show proof of ownership of the firearms that use said ammo...
